So Hughes can beat Royce because Royce is a BJJ black belt, but then Hughes got TOTALLY TOSSED AROUND AND OWNED BY BJ PENN. Then you say GSP is on a higher level then Penn. Yet Hughes owned GSP? I dont see the logic, and the fight between Hughes and Royce will go to the ground where ROyce will own him. Hughes hasnt shown me anything else Id give him more of a chance, he got tossed around like a white belt by Penn and KO'd almost by Trigg who sucks. The only chanch Hughes has is to hope he falls into Royces guard and then GNPs him, which ROyce wont let happen, but it could. Regardless of who Hughes fights, a gracie or not, I hate that fucking dick head, he thinks hes so great and really he isnt.

I thought we already addressed his loss to Penn... he's not that fighter anymore and is much more well versed in submission and will continue to become even better , not on Gracie's level, but not a chump either.

Hughes altogether... is probably better with ground control... obviously not on his back, but with Gracie pulling guard on Hughes... I'd say it's a bad idea, though his only chance. You forget, Hughes is just as good, or maybe a better grappler than Gracie is.

I've heard alot of people say that. I personally think Hughes is a humble guy, though he tells it like he sees it. He's a God fearing country boy, but I think he's the type to just give his honest opinion... even when it comes out wrong, but it's just my opinion. The rematch will be great.

i agree with you O ......hughes will be overconfident ...he thinks he can go to the ground with royce and pull off a submission......hes not even in the same league as royce on the ground....as far as striking, hughes does not impress me at all as a striker and i think he knows his strength is in his takedowns and submissions......he'll simply believe he's better than royce on the ground and will find out the hard way the lion isnt playing with him.......buuuuuuttttt......we shall see wont we?

I think again, you guys are nuts to say he isn't as good on the ground. A wrestler, who starts his career in middle school, is state champ(I think multiple times) in a tough wrestling state in high school, then goes on to a D-1 wrestling college and gets to 5th place in the NCAA championships isn't in the same league on the ground... he's been on the ground wrestling for most of his life, that notion is ludacris.

I think it's going to come down to who can establish the dominant position first and capitalize on that, for some reason I want to see Royce take this one, see him leave the game on top. And I am no Gracie nuthugger either, LOL

Realistically, I can see Royce hanging in there with Hughes for all three rounds. Then at the end, Bruce Buffer anounces,"Winner by Splt Decision, Royce Gracie!!!". And everyone's like, "What the hell?", "BOOOOOO".

I think Hughes has a good chance of defeating Royce in the upcoming bout.

Not necessarily because he's younger, or possibley even stronger than Gracie, or any of the reasons already posted above. No, I believe his true advantage is that BJJ is no longer a secret to the rest of the world.

When Royce Gracie defeated/submitted all opponents with apparent ease back in the '90s, none of his opponents had a clue as to what was going on. That's not the case anymore. It's as if the Royce Gracie playbook has been open to the opposing team since what, the late nineties???

Don't get me wrong here, Royce Gracie is a force to contend with. His record speaks for itself--but what is it going to be like for him to compete against a younger man who already has a solid foundation in the same art that is being used against him? Hughes may not be as skilled in BJJ, but I think his mix of stand up fighting, wrestling and ground work should at least be sufficient to give Royce a run for his money.

What happened when he met Penn, he tried to go for a shot/firemans carry and screwed up then BJ Penn pushed him over when he was on his knees.

Wow matt hughes screws up 1 out of 1000 takedowns in MMA fights, BJ penn deserves credit for hughes shooting a bad shot. yep.

Then we see BJ Penn unable to break Hughes gaurd open until he lands a wild swing for the fences superman punch. He couldnt break a then BJJ whitebelt Hughes' gaurd open? Sick grappler.

I don't see how you can compare BJ Penn to Royce Gracie too. Penn is a much more complete fighter, maybe he isn't as good on the ground but he's much better at everything else.
