  • Grapplers beware...

There's a book I recently heard of called Ultimate Dim-Mak:How to Fight a Grappler and Win, and the description is...Grappling is not superior, just different, says Erle Montaigue, a former pro wrestler himself. Here he takes you inside the mind of the grappler and reveals his strategy, thus taking away his edge. Learn to target the most vulnerable points and apply foolproof dim-mak sleeper holds to counter the moves grapplers will use in any no-holds-barred fight. Yeah, whatever.

Here's a review for the book...Dim Mak is real and it can save your life in a grapple, May 12, 2000
Reviewer: A customer from Sedona, AZ
Contrary to the publisher's statement, the Ultimate fighting Championships are *NOT* "no-holds barred". Practioners of San Soo and Dim Mak are restricted or entirely banned. Just ask UFC for a participant rules list. Practioners of these systems are taught to protect themselves at any cost. An attacker may try to punch your lights out and catch your eye with the tip of his/her index finger and blind you for life. He/she may slam your head against the pavement and give you brain damage or kill you. You just can't asume the attacker's character! If you get grappled in the real world, Dim Mak may be your best defense against serious injury or death. This book, and others by Montaigue, will help you get the grappler the heck off you.
    "In a grapple"

And then there's this one... Dim-Mak is the ultimate fighting technique, sorry grapplers., September 3, 1999
    Reviewer: musgrod@eou.edu from Oregon,USA
How can one deny thousands of years of combat fighting knowledge such as this. A world (the battle field or street) were there is absolutely no rules. Unlike NHB or UFC smooth-ring fighting where the rules (no neck strikes, no gouging, no finger hooks and the unwritten rule of no groin strikes) are made to give grappling the advantage. Dim-Mak is clearly superior and Erle Montaigue does a good job of showing it.

And this...ALL YOU'LL EVER NEED TO LEARN ABOUT "SELF DEFENSE", June 16, 1999
    Reviewer: COLONJO@YAHOO.COM from PENN. USA
To whoever says this book is difficult and useless, Im teaching my 5 yr. old niece this stuff. Grappling is not superior, just different...How can you deny thousands of years of proven effectiveness? Supposed "no holds barred" tournaments do have restrictions against groin and neck shots.....so who is supreme? humble monks and educated martial artits who know better than to fight for EGO...............!

And some dumbass wrote this...Do you know anything about Erle Montague?, May 16, 2002
Reviewer: Phanthom Spectre from British Indian Ocean Territory
Im sorry some people who are grapplers feel that way.
Im sorry that some people feel the need to argue about it.
If those who feel they need to argue knew that Erle Montague actually WAS A FORMER PRO WRESTLER perhaps none of them would have actually said anything and made themselves look bad.

    Sorry Grapplers!

What do y'all think about this?

that book isnt exactly new, Some of the drills will help strengthen your legs and waist, and IF you can land the strikes before the grappler closes the gap, then yes it works. Mostly its simply the counters to basic entries and takedowns that highlight the vulnerable targets during each attack. i think if you try this without grappling experience of your own and ironpalm to give authority to the strikes you would be better off hitting the grappler with the book

however if you try to quote me that KF from a BOOK isnt going to help you beat a grappler i will deny it....

    just kiddin'

I call BULLSH*T on that one. Its like the human stun gun trying to take down stephan bonnar. Its all crap. Its for people who cant accept thier weakness so they read a book thinking theyll get strong and be able to fight.

Now thats a bit overboard, Earle is not a Dillman clone, and i assure you, If you add the info in the book to your training then it IS a serious weapon in your toolbox.

Seriously, the only way to fight a grappler and win is to grapple yourself and to have good striking skills, and the other defense is being armed with a gun or knife. Come on, grapplers dont get defeated by silly pressure points, "sleeper holds", and fingerlocks.

Please explain this to me... if I grapple do I realy need good striking skills.
I agree, for a striker to beat a gappler, he needs to understad grappling, but it's not a must for him to grapple.

Sure, he can be aware of what the grappler might(or is gonna) do to him, but unless he has experiance and proper training in defending takedowns, getting out of clinches and even getting to his feet if taken down, then he is still exposed to the grapple's strengths and his own weakness(lack of grappling skill). The striker might not have to grapple all that much but there will be a point in time like in a clinch where he will have to push the grappler off.

Elbows? What about them? Theyre a common striking tool, not some hokus pokus DimMak secret hidden technique.

Hey matbla, use you your spell check tardo

Ummm, though I hate it... I find myself agreeing with Boarspear for the second time today. This is good stuff, though I don't agree that knowing it will defeat a grappler. It is true, and I've stated it on this site before, grappling on ANY hard or rough surface sucks... at least on your back. I've been there, and seen it done, it's not fun AT ALL. Bruises, cuts and whatever. Though, it you put someone on their back, it's nice to make them a little uncomfortable. In a real fight, I have 3 tried and true techniques. 1. Sucker punch, cheap shot, surprise... also coincides very well with number 2... 2. Back out, run, ect. Works wonders. 3. Keep something on you to protect yourself, and if you don't have something, find something, or use the envioronment to your advantage... no such thing as a fair fight, and if you belive that then number 2 might be your best option...

Alright, none of what you just posted has anything to do with the book or Dim Mak at all!

I said I AGREED WITH BOARSPEAR... that's what it had to do with it... his post... and I was refuting a point made by the book and the people you quoted and agreeing with other points. You seriously need to get a clue. Are you like 10? You have no logic and reasoning... are you completly stupid? Or do you pretend?

finger locks? who said finger locks? and if you think pressure points are silly, you're overconfident and under-educated. Also the good striking skills thing jr, do you suppose the knowledge where to hit and the ability to do so might be helpful? and as for grapplers dont get defeated with sleeper holds,.......... ...........
thats almost enough to qualify you for my ignore list all by itself
