So someone's trying to get a rear naked choke and of course my chin is all the way down, what can I do when they're cranking the hell out of it anyway and trying to kill my jaw? I mean, what can I do so it won't hurt as much until I can get their arm over.

nothing u can really cept endure it or tap out. sometimes people dont need the choke, they can cause so much pressure on the jaw that people will tap out from the pain.

You gotta pull the arm if its not too late and of course turn the direction his his fingers are pointing to escape, after you turned your legs and got one of his hooks out. But once hes secured the choke and even if its over your jaw and not you neck it doesnt matter, it hurts and you will be wise to tap, espeically if its just during training

LOL, Okay, fine, no magic bullet... so you just put up with it until you can get his arm over, I get it. I just thought it was hard to work for better positioning while dealing with the putting up with the choke stuff.
I thought it'd be easier to avoid letting them get the choke in if we were allowed to break their pinkies.

No way, dude!! "Because even if my physical body shold fall before you to the earth, I am not worried. For I know that my spirit will arise to the heavens, as it is unconquerable." --Guro Dan
But remember I train for SD (well and for fun), and it got me wondering what I would do on the street--biting and breaking pinkies to avoid getting choked out seemed like options.

Yeah, I know the escape, it's just a matter of getting there without having to tap out first.
I was surprised to hear the guys in my class saying biting on the street is a bad idea because "then if he does get to you he'll be even more pissed off"-- as if someone who's trying to strangle you is being nice and dainty.

Hey, don't diss my classmates!
I think the rule of thumb I try to go by is what I used when learning wilderness survival. "What's gonna kill you first?" If I risk escalating to avoid getting choked and passing out (and who knows what'll happen in those few seconds--or worse if they keep the choke on longer) then it's a good risk to take. They were correct, I think, in pointing out that it would in fact escalate...

If I had the choke on, right now I would say I would choke harder, but then again I don't know what my response would be if it actually happened to me, I might let go and beat the shit out of whoevers head it is, seems like a good choice too!
And about escaping the rear naked choke, you can try to keep defending then lock their elbow in, and sweep them to the side, usually they will make a mistake after trying to choke for so long. Another escape is just keep them from applying the pressure then get one hook off and keep going to the side then the other hook will go off eventually if you can still keep the first one off.
