After many months of rolling around with sweaty men in what can only be described as homo-erotic positions I have decided to leave BJJ in search of something better. Lets face it guys, we love to fight and win on the mat but you cant tell me that your ultimate desire isn’t to be able to defend yourself on the street against anything that someone can throw at you. In my opinion BJJ was far too “sport” oriented to be of much value in a realistic situation. Sure I could add striking to my training, take some boxing, some Muay Thai, etc. like many BJJ guys tend to do but there are only so many hours in a day/days in a week/etc…I have this thing called a life and I don’t have time to be in the gym all day every day so basically what I would end up with is mediocre skills in a variety of disciplines.
What I’ve started studying is Modern Defendo CQB and I have never seen anything like it. My instructors teach us to always assume that our assailant is armed and not alone and that we should avoid physical conflict at all costs, However when forced to defend ourselves we attack with explosive, viciousness and ferocity, taking out eyes, throat, groin, breaking fingers, toes, etc. We train to fight exhausted, against multiple attackers in every imaginable situation, mimicking blind attacks, attacks with weapons, fighting injured, etc…we train to subdue and disable with lightning quick speed and then to get out quickly. They teach us that our best defense is awareness and intuition and that 95% of conflicts can be avoided if we choose. And I absolutely love the fact that there is a total lack of the ego and machismo that I’ve experienced in other MMA clubs…and in mma forums.
I highly recommend checking it out.
