  • Goodbye BJJ...

After many months of rolling around with sweaty men in what can only be described as homo-erotic positions I have decided to leave BJJ in search of something better. Lets face it guys, we love to fight and win on the mat but you cant tell me that your ultimate desire isn’t to be able to defend yourself on the street against anything that someone can throw at you. In my opinion BJJ was far too “sport” oriented to be of much value in a realistic situation. Sure I could add striking to my training, take some boxing, some Muay Thai, etc. like many BJJ guys tend to do but there are only so many hours in a day/days in a week/etc…I have this thing called a life and I don’t have time to be in the gym all day every day so basically what I would end up with is mediocre skills in a variety of disciplines.

What I’ve started studying is Modern Defendo CQB and I have never seen anything like it. My instructors teach us to always assume that our assailant is armed and not alone and that we should avoid physical conflict at all costs, However when forced to defend ourselves we attack with explosive, viciousness and ferocity, taking out eyes, throat, groin, breaking fingers, toes, etc. We train to fight exhausted, against multiple attackers in every imaginable situation, mimicking blind attacks, attacks with weapons, fighting injured, etc…we train to subdue and disable with lightning quick speed and then to get out quickly. They teach us that our best defense is awareness and intuition and that 95% of conflicts can be avoided if we choose. And I absolutely love the fact that there is a total lack of the ego and machismo that I’ve experienced in other MMA clubs…and in mma forums.

I highly recommend checking it out.

In other words, you couldn't hack it and pussed out. Instead you will now spend your time on a 'theoretical' deadly killing super-duper everthing 'art' where you stand around talking about stuff and your little ego doesn't get squashed every single time.

    Typical.

No, I handled it quite well actually...I just found it impractical and frankly more than a little gay.

And I don't study a "super duper anything" and we sure as hell don't refer to it as an "art"...it's the same close quarter combat training that Navy Seals, FBI, CIA, etc take. And we rarely "stand around" we train to exhaustion and learn to fight under extremely challenging circumstances, not laying on our back on a comfy mat... I've studied BJJ, Boxing, Kung Fu, Wrestling and I feel that this gives me the credibility to comment on my experiences. Perhaps you should do some research before you open your mouth and spout off like the typical BJJ wannabe tough guy.

How are you going to choke someone out when his friends are kicking you in the head? How are you going to defend against weapons if you NEVER train to fight someone with a weapon? face it Bjj is weak in real life scenarios...just admit it, you know it's true. You don't have to be ashamed...after all it works just dandy in the octagon with rules and a referee

Insecure! You think someone trying to slam you, snap your arm or put you to sleep is gay?

Anyway good riddance, but I'll be nice and wish you luck.

Actually I do think BJJ is quite effective, in fact it’s what we use for our ground fighting…the reason I say it’s “gay” is because, in my opinion, spending a great deal of time between another mans legs is, well…pretty gay feeling. And I could live with that it if I thought it was wonderfully effective for real self defense but it isn’t. It’s a sport, plain and simple…and when we do our ground fighting training we practice on concrete and our goal is always to get the hell back onto our feet so we can defend against multiple attackers, have access to our exits, be in control of our surroundings, etc…the way I see it is if I want to train in a sport I’ll take tennis, if I want to learn to fight I’ll take combat training, not safe controlled, “okay everyone ready” competition bullshit.

And nobody would be able to defend themselves against 7 "big men"...that's action movie nonsense...but we do train to improvise weapons from objects in our surroundings so I would have a better shot at it than you

                        as i said....

"Actually I do think BJJ is quite effective"

In a sporting environment...but on it's own it has serious limitations when it comes to real life.

boo, if you want to know what the Navy Seal's actually train in talk to Mike Brewer (a member of this board).

Mike has actually trained Navy Seals and other US Special Forces operatives (that's his day job).

Unfortunately, "DEFENDO" isn't what they do.
