  • Joe "Gorilla" Moreira v. Sakuraba: OH NO!

ADCC is reporting a come back by the Gorilla and a possible Pride match up with Sak. Of all the bjj fighters in all the world why Moreira? Moreira is without doubt the worst vale tudo fighter I've ever seen.

Moreira ran from Varlens the whole night and rightfully lost a unanimous decision. Then he fought in a tournement against Yuri Vaulin, a stand up fighter. Moreira was pathetic. He mounted Vaulin and held on.

Then when it came time to fight Kevin Jackson, Moreira announces he's sprained his pinky. DOING WHAT I'D LIKE TO KNOW! That was a major league wuss-out.

    Please no Moreira!

Maybe he'll surprise everyone and defeat sak...That would be wild to see.

Maybe I'm wrong but didn't Moreira beat Sak(by points I'm sure) a while back?

Hmmmm, I doubt that Joe would get paired with Sakuraba unless they want an easy win for him.

I don't want to disrespect Prof. Joe, but I believe he is past his prime.
He can probably hang and nail quite a few guys, but not the A level competitors.
He has those awful wobbly knees.
As an instructor, I think he has a vast wealth of information, but as a MMA/NHB competitor, well past his prime

          Badger:

The Fighter Database reports no fight between Sak and Moreira. You may be thinking of Silviera who fought Sak twice in UFC Japan. The first fight was declared a no contest (McCarthy jumped in way too early) and Silviera tapped out to an arm bar in the second.

            Thanks for the correction,Americana

I knew it was someone with an "a" in their last name.

In that case what are they thinking-Joe will be killed!

ADCC new page reported that Joe is negotiating with Pride for a Sak fight. I don't know if it will pan out but I agree with Americana. I don't think this will be much of test for Sak. I think if Sak can beat Renzo he should be able to beat Moreira.

so. do they just put anyone they want up against him? shouldn't a fighter be judged by his win/loss record and quality of past opponents before fighting someone like sak? i mean how do you go from renzo, royce, royler, to "shannon the cannon" and joe moreira?

Well my guess is that Sak's camp is thinking this would be a tune-up fight.

But yeah, you make a good point and hopefully once the "new" UFC gets off the ground the bigwigs will have a pow-wow and comeup with a ranking system. That would not only contribute to fighters from different shows fighting each other but also make for top fights and make fighters climb a ladder.

I agree that Gorilla doesnt even belong in the ring with Sak. Maybe he thinks he has a chance because he recntky won a Sport JJ match against a very tough young competitor who was favored to win. He won on some BS technicality because the younger guy dominated the entire match.

It will be a snorefest unless Sak knocks him out early.

read ADCC, pride officials said there is no way this is happening nor ever was going to happen. they are not interested in having joe x sak.

                          John Matato

Joe slapped an armlock on a world champ. The guys name was Alexander "Cafe" Dantes.Cafe didnt dominate the entire fight,Joe did a perfect throw and when he went for the amrlock(And got it)Cafe picked up joe and slammed him(Illigal) on his head knocking him Unconsious. But,Joe doesnt deserve to be in the ring with Sak.I watched his fights in the UFC and he wasnt anything special.
