I've always concidered Pride to be premier, though the UFC certainly has many great fighters.

In PRIDE, its all about the front head-lock and knee action on the ground(illegal in UFC). Also, the ground and pound is more skilled since Elbow and Forearm strikes are illegal(but legal in UFC). The PRIDE ring's surface is actually harder than the Ocatagon's. The 10 minute first round is nice, and the stomps and futbol kicks to a down opponent dont hurt either....(no pun intended)

            hmmmm

Seeing as many of the fighters have been in both or still compete in both of these and other circuits. I don't think you can state either is tougher or has better fighters.
            W. Silva will be fighting in UFC soon, does that mean his opponent will not be as tough as the PRIDE guys he has been beating -- I promise you I will not be the one to tell Chuck that.
Circuit vs circuit they both have rules and you have to fight within those rules, so a guy that can stomp everyone in UFC may have trouble in PRIDE and vice versa if they don't familiarize themselves with the small changes and round lengths.
Look at Royce vs Hughes as an example. Fighting rules are different in UFC than when last he fought on the circuit, and it worked against him.
The true difference to me about these two circuits is marketing -- UFC has brought mixed martial arts to the widest audience and continues to find new ways to grow the fan base.
PRIDE needs a show like UFC Unleashed on a weekly basis.
In my market the only PRIDE fights you will see are on Pay-per-view or by renting the 2 DVDs at Blockbuster. Yet I can see UFC Unleashed weekly, pick up an alternate broadcast, pay-per-view older UFC fights for practically nothing, buy and rent from a choice of about 15 DVDs, and watch the reality show season 4 starting this month.
Which ever fighters anyone thinks are tougher is fine by me, but when you look at the circuits as a forum for fighters and entertainment for spectators UFC is the winner -- because of/or despite -- the fighters.

I have to give the UFC alot of credit for the growth it brings to MMA and for giving me something to watch weekly without having to spend $50.00 on a PPV fight. Not too mention UFC Fight Night once a month on SpikeTV now is pretty sweet. Live fights, PPV quality competitors for free (given this is only available in the US as far as I know)...

However, Pride to me just has more talent, more fighters from more places with more diversity in their techniques and approach. It just makes for a more interesting circuit to watch...

UFC seems less diverse in terms of fighting styles. Everybody seems to have picked the same formula.

In Pride you've got a lot of top notch fighters who have very different styles which makes it very interesting. Fedor, Nog, Crocop. All three fight very differently, but they're all at the top of their league.

As for marketing...Pride is coming to Las Vegas. It appears they intend to start establishing a fan base here as well.

It depends how you look at it though, have they picked the same formula because its the most appropriate and effective or is it that they just have less diversity?

Depends on the weight class. Pride owns the heavyweights and lightweights, UFC has better middleweights and welterweights. Light heavy is pretty even.

i like the UFC just because they have marketed their show better. I don't know if everyone has FSN in their area but they show PRIDE every week it is just like the UFC's unleashed. today 08/27/06 FSN is showing as best i can understand a live Bushido show. anyway i am going to record it. when PRIDE gets their marketing together they will be as good or better than the UFC...IMO

I like Pride because of the damage their fighters do with their kicks. When was the last time you saw a knockout by Kick in the UFC.. Disclaimer...I think UFC is closer to a real fight.

I lean more towards Pride myself because I like the variation of fighters they seem to attract. BJJ guys, Wrestling guys, Sambo guys, Judo guys, Shoot wrestling guys, MT guys, Karate guys, Freestyle guys etc. But I would continue to watch and support UFC because I love it too. Sometimes I feel that it is creating fighters who all train in the same styles which makes their fights a little more predicatble.
I like that the fighters can wear a gi in Pride too. I don't know why, maybe it's me trying to imitate "Streetfighter" in real life!
Plenty of great fighters in both organisations and it looks like K1 Heros is also starting to attract plenty of great fighters as well.

UFC has better fighters pound for pound, i bet no pride guy anywhere near 170-180 can fight with guys in the ufc like matt hughes ,the prodigy bj penn, teh french canadian GSP georges st.pierre, and Frank Trigg. Also UFC has the most amazing light heavyweights in the world, like the iceman chuck liddell who is imo teh best striker in the ufc, the huntington beach badboy tito ortiz and the natural randy couture

Well, I agree that Hughes Could probably take most of the lightweights in pride... But when it comes to lightheavy, and heavy pride rules all... In UFC the only contender for Liddel is Otiz.. In pride Silva's gotta worry about guys like Arona, Yoshida, and Overeem.. And he beat jackson twice, and we all know how bad of a beating jackson laid on Liddel...

And if I actually have to go into why Pride's heavyweights are better then you really don't know much about MMA then...
