I know there's a large constituency that want's the Rickson Sak matchup, but that's not nearly the best matchup.
Whether you like it or not, Rickson's a BJJ fighter or GJJ fighter if it makes you feel better. Nothing more and nothing less. This being the case, he's already eliminated from being top notch competitor.
Why? Cause he lacks two of the most critical components of being a serious threat to several of the top middle weights. He's a poor striker and he doesn't have above mediocre college level takedowns. Characteristics which have become painfully obvious in his own fights and in other fights involving Bjjer's. Why do you think they lose so often?
BJJ no longer cuts it and that's what Rickson Gracie does. Even on the ground, Funaki was able to get out of his guard and that guy was mediocre all the way. Secondly, it took Rickson forever to get him on the ground.
Some preferable matchups would be
1. Frank Shamrock
2. Tito- Does anyone think Sak could take him?
3. Kevin Randleman- He can definitely make the weight and I was extremely disappointed when the rumoured fight with Sak didn't happen. Although I bet Sak wasn't.
4. Dan Henderson- say what you will, but the guy's a winner. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't he undefeated in NHB competition?
All the myths about BJJ have crumbled, so for the sake of Gracie fans, let's hope Pride get's Sak a legit opponent and not Rickson. I couldn't stand another crushing blow to the BJJ world.
To continue on with my first post, Pride and other japanese organizations need to get the A team fighters in the middle and light weights. Bring on the Triggs, hughes, Ortiz's, Franks, etc. Enough of the Debacle....
later on dudes............
