He picks Frye as his MMA opponent??? Guess he thinks he's gunna take Frye down with no problem, which he might, but if it stays standing liek Fryes apt to do, Roger is going to get KTFO in rd.1. Why fight such an experienced, hardened fighter like Frye??

Frye is TRASH thats why....he's so very old and recently had a draw with a CAN in reuben Villareal.....which Frye should of lost but since he'ssuch a huge star thay called it a draw. His recent victory by RNC was against another can.....and by the way...Yoshida's guard sucks and he still managed to snap Frye's arm with ease with an armbar.Roger will prob win....but even then the Gracie's need to stay out of MMA.

I know they'll never turn the clock back to the early 90's when their art surprised everyone, but why should they? I'd love to see guys like Roger & Ryron carry on the family fighting tradition

Well to bolth of you all i have to say is....based on the recent Gracies being dominated and not having a noteable win in years along with the fact that i usted to train with Rodrigo who in my opinion was the most well rouned of them getting beat by a complete can....leads me to believe that there genetics will not let them be good at takedowns and striking...i dont know how else to put it...ive seen Rodrigo work hard on his striking and takedowns and he still honestly is not very good at them.No gracie from any era will not succeed in top level MMA....never...due to the simple fact that they are doing Jiu-Jitsu all day everyday there whole lives...then start to branch out a few years before they try MMA....im sorry but it doesnt work like that...thats building a fighter who is great on the ground with a gi on but who is horrible at striking and takedowns without the gi.Unless a Gracie decides to train his son in BJJ Boxing Muay Thai and Wrestling from a very early age and actually give the kid a chance in todays modern MMA world then i dont wanna hear shit about the Gracies.

There is some truth to that but there are alot of other gracies training MMA than rodrigo. But the best BJJ guys, like Minoturo and Bustamante, made up there own MMA teams, Brazilian Top team and teams/camps like that are definetly the way to go these days. Start with awesome ground fighters or world class wrestling like Couture, liddel, etc and mix it up with great stand up and boxing. If Roger or any one of the Gracies would get on a "team" then theyd do alot better. ITs not in their genetics to be bad at take downs, I guess you havent seen the ADCC. ITs in your genetics to, well understandably, bash on the Gracies, who have destroyed every fighting style ever put in front of them, for, at one point, at least a decade. Their time has passed with training one dimensional for MMA, but BJJ never was meant solely for MMA, it just so happened to dominate it by its sure authenticity as a fighting art

So your saying that someone who has trained extensively in BJJ could not become a well rounded fighter? I mean c'mon anyone who has the heart, desire and athleticism to pursue it (not too mention some balls) can become a well rounded MMA competitor. Assumptions are the ultimate evil in MMA, Roger or Ryron could easily come on to the scene and take their weight class by storm. They have a more modern approach, an open mind, they cross-train... to pigeon hole them as stricly BJJ guys who could never compete in MMA is just...well, foolish... I wouldn't assume just because your username is Jkd187 that you only know JKD and could never learn grappling if you tried because you are genetically impaired...
See that's the thing...they need a team which they have yet to do...they dont have great sparring partners or great trainers....in BJJ yes but in MMA hell no.I believe it's due to the fact that there last name is Gracie...it's an ego thing....i mean they fight MMA half heatedly they train people in BJJ all day everyday and then when a fight comes up they work on there stand up and takedowns for 2-3 months with no name trainers/training partners. If Roger would go and train at MFS Elite or AKA he would have great trainers and training partners....look what it did for Josh Koscheck...Pure Wrestler now top Well rounded MMA contender...also Getting a takedown in Abu Dhabi is nothing like getting a takedown in MMA...its completely Different.
Its actually harder in some ways, no cage to push the guy against and hold him with your hooks in to trip or throw him, you HAVE to shoot and get the take down. Or you can pull guard, as we saw Lister do 2 fights ago, which is fine in MMA if ur ground game is good. but its diff. cuz theres no knees or punches flailing your way,. but it if will work in one, it will work in the other. Look at the MMA guys in ADCC, Monson, Trigg, etc , it carries over to MMA just fine

I agree there is an ego issue to overcome for some of the Gracie's... I have discussed this before and I in no way disagree with that. I honestly think that Roger, Ryron, some of the younger Gracies may be able to get beyond that and compete effectively in MMA... again though I agree that they need a team to train with. It would be something else to see Roger Gracie at MFS or BTT... I doubt that will ever happen but it would be pretty amazing.
The post I disagreed with was when you said "No gracie from any era will not succeed in top level MMA....never...due to the simple fact that they are doing Jiu-Jitsu all day everyday there whole lives...then start to branch out a few years before they try MMA....im sorry but it doesnt work like that...thats building a fighter who is great on the ground with a gi on but who is horrible at striking and takedowns without the gi." , That I can't agree with, ALOT of MMA fighters start that way... and like you said, if they went to a good camp, and had good training partners, they could be successful in MMA. It's the ego that is the real issue in my opinon...
