Why are a lot of bjj teachers against leglocks?

I heard some guys say it is a cheap move but i like cheap moves that are tapping people.

Well, back when I started, it was considered a cheap move, along with wrist locks too. But now it's changed. It's the evolution of the moves in the sport, you got to follow it, or else your stuck with the same old things, from 15 years ago. You have to be open minded and learn always.

Great to have an educated BJJ opinion on the Forum.

I train at Carlson Gracie Jr. in Chicago at still hear stories about your former days there. Such as training is Carlos' basement. I sure would like to have learned from the guy who could beat Daniel Vianna!

I dont know if you have from Carlos, but he is getting really good. He just won a local grappling tournament at Bob Shirmers in the advanced division. I think that he won the final 8-0!

If possible, I would like to ask you a difficult question that we dont mention around Junior. Has the Top Team members split from Carlson Sr. had any effect on his schools (such as yours) in the US? I have followed the competition careers of the top Carlson guys for the last several years and was saddened to hear of the break. We would pass around fight tapes of Sperry, Bustamanche, Goes, Liborio, Vitor...

In the past several top members (Belfort, Bitteti) have stopped by our school. Will they feel comfortable to do so in the future? I sure hope so.

As one of Rey's students, I can respond to the question about the Top Team and its effect on our school. When Allan, Murillo, and the rest of the guys left Carlson's team it didnt affect our training, enrollment, or team spirit one bit.

The reason that Rey's students, in my opinion, train with him is because he gives them everything he has to make them better. The new Top Team doesnt change that at all.
