  • Besides Sakuraba....

Who else has beat the Gracies in NHB?
Everyone keeps saying that the Gracies are losing to everybody-but I can only recall Sak beating them.

BJJ tournaments don't count since it is a different game & its still BJJ vs. BJJ.

The Gracies losing to Sak does not mean they are bad-just that Sak is really good.

        Angel,
That was a loss by default.
I believe to lose to someone you have to fight them first.

In NHB, I believe that Sak was the first to beat a Gracie in NHB.

If I'm not mistaken, Mario Sperry was the first to beat a Gracie in BJJ (tapping Royler).

Then Wallid, then... well you know how the rest goes...

            hmmm...

I just think part of it is, that most of the Gracies lately have been fighting only okay guys and when they finally fight someone good. He beats four of them in a row. Did you read the interview where Sak says he thinks Ryan was faking his injury? I am incline to believe Sak on that one.-ED

              Some guys...

Not counting Kimura, Waldemar Santana defeated Helio, too.
Other than Sakuraba - Kiyoshi Tamura also defeated Renzo, although it was a decision and a very close one. It was in the RINGS KOK 2K tournament 2nd round, so it wasn't full on NHB, but I suppose it counts.

Did anyone read the article about Rickson Gracie in the current issue of BlackBelt magazine(march 2001)

Anyway Rickson, goes on to put down Sakuraba in the interview.

He goes on to say and I quote "I saw fights where he really didn't win-like with Royler. Sakuraba stayed outside and kicked Royler's legs and punished him, and because of the weight difference he got the advantage. I saw him fight Royce, and Royce had the advantage in the first rounds. And then he just got tired and could not keep the pressure on Sakuraba. He could not finish the fight before he got tired.
And I saw him fight Renzo: He was calm, waiting for Renzo to give him the space to create new options for himself. Basically, Sakuraba's not a destroyer; he's not a guy who has a great expertise in anything."

Rickson goes on to say a few more things basically bad mouthing everyone who had beat a Gracie. I guess beating the hell out of someone's legs dosen't count in his book. I thought that the Gracies said that size dosen't matter with their ju-jitsu, I guess it does after all. If Sakuraba wasn't the better fighter he wouldn't have won.

                Let the flaming begin.
