Well Josh Barnett is one of his students and you see how good he is. Erik Paulson is pretty much the real deal.

The organization is called Combat Submission Wrestling and they are solid. Erik has done a great job with the curriculum and all of his guys in this area are pretty decent.

However, to be fair, Paulson is just training Barnett right now.

In my opinion, Paulson may be the best trainer out there for MMA.

Erik is definately the real deal. I have trained with him a few times and highly recommend that anyone who is interested in improving their fight game pay the money to train with him. You will leave there a better fighter. He has a ton of leglocks which he is known for but his stand up is out of this world. He has great striking skills and is really good from the tie up. You can really tell he trained with Larry Hartsell for all those years as well as Yori Nakamura.

He sucks go with the Machado Brothers.

I used to train with him at Machado brothers back in 93 he was a long way from being competative with the good Black belts. Basically he hitched himself to the JKD bandwagon and got left in the dust by BJJ. Now he is trying to catch up just like all the JKD boys.

Erik is a black belt from Riggan Machado. There is no way anyone can honestly say that he sucks. You should go train with him now to see for yourself. He's much better now than he was 13 years ago!!

Tim, that's more of an anti JKD line rather than anti Erik in my view.

OK, the better JKD guys have been playing catch up with BJJ. All the best people were! But they know lots of stuff that the BJJ guys don't.

Now I'm not a devotee of either. But if I wanted to find something that made me a well rounded fighter, I'd go with JKD anytime over the brilliant, but limited, BJJ.

And I've dabbled with CSW here

You're f*ckin' delusional. Erik still trains with the Machados on occasion and his JKD coach (Dan Inosanto) is a Machado blackbelt and I have heard Guro Inosanto say that Erik's current work is absolutely blowing his mind. And wasn't Erik barely a blue belt back in 94??

I am Machado Jiu-JItsu guy (http://www.slcbjj.com), so don't even pretend that this is a slight on them, and I can guarantee you that Erik Paulson has never been left in the dust by anyone.

That wasn't even a good try for a troll. A good troll bothers to take the time to understand the target of his derision . . . you just didn't take the time.

I have to agree with most people on this post. Erik Paulson is one of the top people out there today, either as a striker or as a grappler. I trained under him for a couple of years. I have to admit that I had a problem with a lot of the information that he was communicating... to be direct, I couldn't make a lot of the stuff work... but Erik could. I couldn't recommend him enough as an instructor.

He also currently has a school in anaheim, I believe. I'm sure that his site give details on it's location and curriculum. Check it out if you get the chance. You won't be dissappointed.

I said he was not as good as the good black belts anyone who spend enough time and money will get their belt eventialy. Perhaps you are right and he has improved, but I doubt the grappling at his facility can compete with that at Machados.
