  • bjj question

what if i take bjj and i'm in a 2v1? do i take one guy to the ground, mess him up and let the other guy kick or punch the crap out of me?

and for people saying this probably wont happen or to run it wont cause i saw it in a dream and it's gonna happen.

You saw it in a dream, and you think it's gonna happen? Ok... tad weird.

2 Vs. 1 your screwed. Dones't matter how good you are if your outnumbered your outnumbered. If your so sure this is gonna happen try to disable one guy while you fight th other guy. Good smack in the balls or something. Or hope for a KO on the first punch with one guy.

bjj training should be to supplement your standup striking, not your primary attack. and you can take out multiple people depending on the situation, especially if you have a weapon like a knife, but not with bjj alone. just depends. bjj is for when you find yourself on the ground or someone has already grabbed you. bjj training should be to help you avoid the ground.

well training bjj will also help you with takedowns, escapes, sweeps, etc not just your ground grappling. dropping someone on their head on concrete WILL take the fight out of them. even just a sweep where they fall to their back can cause their head to snap back and smack the cement. if it goes to the ground your obviously going to wanna get up, learning passes and sweeps and positioning will help a lot with rolling some guy off of you, finding balance and standing.

no martial art will ever completly prepare you for a streetfight, it can only give you tools to work with. anyone can be knocked out in one good hit, anyone can be shot or stabbed.

as far as your original question, what should you do? when ive gotten jumped before ive pulled knives. anything sharp will work (bottle, pen, screwdriver) If youre not willing to do that, or dont have the option I usually try to stomp peoples knees and throwing hands. if it goes to grappling I go straight for headbutts any chance i can get. theres no feeling worse than being headbutted in the face. and biting hurts too

Takedowns and throws are the easiest way for a fighter to end a confrontation, and when done swiftly and powerfully, 2 guys shouldnt be too much trouble. But hey, anything can happen in a fight, so who knows. But throws/takedowns are the most definitive ends to a real fight... especially those with hard surfaces or objects involved.

I have to agree with this tool, throws are your best bet or try to snap an arm while standing real quick

I think in instances like this the circumstances have a massive bearing on how you respond. For instance, it could be that by immediately assaulting the larger, 'leader' in the duo you may imtimidate his companion.

So, firstly, I'd suggest consider the psychology of a multiple-attacker scenario.

Secondly, with regards to self defence situations and BJJ, cross-training will surely help.

              Cheers.

In The Stand Up Self-defense Portion Of Jiu Jitsu, There Are Low Kicks, Aimed At The Knee, Which Can Help Stop One Attacker While You Deal With The Next. Even The Way One Closes The Distance When An Attacker Is Attempting To Pucnch You, (with Your Elbows Leading And Arms Covering Your Face And Ears) Might Help To Temporarily Or Permanently Disable One Attacker While You Deal With The Next.

in a street situation i would allways recomend stand up whether its against one person or two. A takedown is also good, but going to the ground is allways my last option. Other people could jump in that you have not seen and start kicking you in the head, ext... Also ground fighting on concrete is very different than on a mat!

people are talking about takedowns and foot sweeps. just to be clear on this, if that's what you want to train go for wrestling or judo.

HEY... I didn't ask for your approval. When someone significant backs me then it means something, you might as well have only agreed in your head.

Snapping an arm while standing only works sometimes. Not what you would call a high percentage technique/techniques.

They're all related. And a good BJJ school with delve into both.

you're right of course, my only point was that if your goal is to focus on that aspect of grappling, wrestling and judo devote more time to it. judo and wrestling delve into plenty of ground fighting, but i'm sure you would agree with me if i suggested to someone who wanted to focus on ground fighting that they take bjj right?
