Rear naked choke

Just curious has anybody been able to combat and effectively get out of a rear naked choke which has been executed and locked in on you

I will tell you why

I have taken many of my buddies, all different weights, heights, and I have put them in the tight choke and wrapped my legs around their front, none of them could get out or find any way out of it

they could not get up because I was so tight on them when they tried to roll I just pulled back harder and applied the choke


any strategies for getting out?

Once locked in it seems like you'd need a HUGE strength disparity to get out of it...maybe if you're damn strong enough you could rip the other guy's arm out of the hold enough to get your chin down and fight out.

I'm curious to know if there's a more "intelligent" version too.

Also, it's interesting though that in matches I can't recall anybody getting out a well locked RNC.

you said legs wrapped around.... does that mean your crossing your feet? If your doing that they could get a real easy footlock on you that always works against the RNC, so if your doing that, switch to hooks...

ummm as for RNC defense you can pull the hand down if they didnt stick it behind your head, or as Bas would say "Heel to the groin"

lol just make sure you have good defensive posture before hand, protect your neck and work to escape before they get their arm in, not just defend, but escape.

I think the best thing to do if you have it locked in is TAP. Cause you are screwed. Or you can do what a guy did to me in my last fight, thumb him in the eye...Iceman style

I mean let's face it, we see even the top pro guys, tough bastard like Kawajiri, tapping out pretty damn quick once they see that it's just plain LOCKED.

I mean OK...eyepoke, hair pull, etc. are all nice in theory, but if it's really locked you only have a little time before you go to sleep right?

It's far too late to start defending the choke after it's in, this actually goes for any submission out there. If anything you can try to pry the choking arm down and tuck your chin in and work from there, otherwise you're pretty much done.

If its sunk with hooks, your fucked... unless you have some sort of weapon already deployed to stab him with, and even then, he can probably tough it out for 5 seconds it takes to knock you out, than he'll stab you.

The point I made is, you should be defending it before, because, if its sunk, and he's got hooks, your fucked.

I would say it is nearly impossible to get out. It's like any move. Put me in a full guillotine, locked in and streched out, and I will try to escape. Or put me in a full armbar and I will try to escape. I remember asking these questions to one of my past instructors and he told me, don't get in it. So before someone even takes your back, try to roll to half guard. Before they try to get the choke in, control one wrist. etc. Good thread though.

Interesting question! I've never had anyone even get close to applying it, but I've put a lot of guys at the bars out with a rear naked choke, and none of them got out once it was locked in. I got a guy off my back who was going for a choke, but it doesn't fit your description because he didn't have it sunk yet. For the record, I stabbed him in the thigh and balls several times with a ball point pen I had in my hand and turned to face him.

you just reminded me of 2 quick fight stories first one: We throw a guy out of the club for being in woens bathrooms we all know what he was going to do then he's sittign iout side the club on a bench next to an older guy nad just attacks him both are lock in combat with the bad guy on top throwing punches the older guy is kinda drunk the bad guy is drunk I come outside pull the bad guy off and rnc him then dropped him on his head on the cement oops1 then the old guy starts kicking him on the ground lol I pull him ooff and the bad guy leaves via ambulence. He comes back next week lol. Story two: my friend starts a fight with a guy on the wrestling team for absolutlly no reason hte guy was nice, the wrestler gets him in a front head lock and my buddie can't escape so my friend pulls a pen out of his jean jacket and stabbs him in the thight a number of time causing him to release the headlock the nice guy collapeses to ground and has to go to the doc to get the ink out I was told.my friend behaved like an ass.
ok one of the time I ws in a wheel cahil 6x I had to do a dip off the bathtub to get on the toilet the toilet seat was old and made of plastic and shattered and I fell onit i got stabed in the scrotum in multipple place with punctures lol so I put soo anitbiotic ointment on it was not about to go to hospital lol thankfull it was fine after a while but i felt like cartoon caracter that got swiss cheesed lol
