  • What size gi?

    Hi everyone. I'm having a hard time deciding which size to get.. I'm checking out the size chart on the atama site and I see : 5' 8"- 6' 0" 170-200 A-3 <- I'm 6'0" but I'm skinny (check name..hehe) @150lbs...
    Should this fit ok?
    Thanks

I just did what you are going through. I am 5'10" and 140lbs, here is what I found...

my first gi was a krugans A2, this fit great, but was short in the arms and legs.

tried a HCK double size 5 jacket and 4 pants. the size 5 jacket was huge, way too big. the size 4 pants fit in length nicely, and are just a little baggy.

ended up with an atama gold weave size A2. this jacket and pants fit me perfect. length in arms and legs are great. the jacket fits great in the shoulders, and is just a little baggy in the chest. the atama has a longer skirt, which I did not like, so I took it in and had it shortened.

I think an A3 with be way too baggy for you.

BTW...since you'll probably never get a perfect fit, as you are even taller then me, you might want to have atama make a custom gi for your size. it says on the website to call them about this if your body type does not fit the standard.

          Dude, don't forget about shrinkage-
not when you come out of a swimming pool or lake,
wash the gi a bit if you are going to tailor it.

            Two of the same...

No idea about Atama, but I've bought HCK Comp Dbl's and this is what I've discovered...

I bought a size 5 and things fit good, initially. After a wash or two, the length in pants and jacket start to become an issue.

I bought a size 6 and things fit baggy, initially. I've washed it in Hot water and dried with High heat in the dryer a few times and problem solved. The lengths are great and the fit is loose, but very functional as I compete in Judo, as well. No more being measured every event from the size 5.

Buy one size up and be done with it. I'm 6'0" and 150 lbs., also.

            Peace

Well, I ended up getting an Atama size A3.. Was a little long at first but after washing and drying it now fits perfect

I know the feeling. I'm 6'3", 210lbs, and a 36" inseam. Either the pants are too short or they are too baggy. I ordered a size 7 HCK pants hoping they would shrink to a prefect length and size. I was wrong.
