    Injured my neck,what now...
I was strenghtening my neck but bent to much forward and after 2 days i started feeling pain.Went to the chiropractor and she said that i sprained some nerver and 1 ligament...and i have to come 5-7 times to the chiropractor.....a lot of money. Now i have headaches on back of my head and neck.My neck feels very heavy,I feel pain in the spine when i bend my head down.

Is it worth it? What do you guys think?...

Has anyone had the same injure?
What can i do besides resting to make it heal faster?
Is is safe to go to the chiropractors?
Will it heal quicker if i visit chiropractors?
How long will it take to heal?

Help me on this one guys

    Thanks

one time i injured my neck pretty badly... i didn't go to a chiropractor, but did go to my doctor. she told me that essentially i had what was equivalent to WHIPLASH. i suffered my injury from neck cranks and the such after a very tough day of training. i couldn't even hold my head up. my neck couldn't support the weight of my head. it was AWFUL.

i don't know if a chiropractor could help. i would trust that if they couldn't help, they would tell you instead of taking your money.

i just took time off of work and rested mine. it took a few days before i could manage to go to work. it was just TIME after that. oh yeah, and lots of motrin (lol).

sorry i don't have any real advice, just experience to offer.

Don't go to the chiropractor for now. Of course they want 5-7 sessions with you! I'll "fix" your spine also if you pay me a fortune! Chiropractors are so full of crap! If there is really nerve damage then you should see a neurologist but you should just wait a few days. Stop training (no running, weights, juijitsu, or anything else), try to relax, and take lots of aspirin. Aspirin alleviates pain by dealing with inflammation which is what you need. If your nerve were pinched it would be worse than what you're feeling now and you'd need surgury. The nerve probably just feels like it's pinched because of the inflamed tissue pressed around it.
        Stay away from chiropractors!!!!!

Take two weeks to three weeks off. GO back to training slowly. If the pain continues go to a md who specializes in sports medicine. It will heal with some time off. If that doesn't work then go to the chiropractor. Just my two cents.

yeah... z is right... start training whenever you're ready. start lightly and roll with guys you trust. roll with guys that will be sensitive to your condition and wouldn't mind going lightly. if/when you feel pain, tap or verbally submit quickly.

i honestly don't remember how long it took for me. it was about 5 years ago for me. i'd guess it was at least a month or more.

if you're gonna roll, i'd say work on your guard game. do something where you're flat on your back. staying flat on you back will not be a strain on your neck.

only hit the mat WHEN YOU'RE READY!

as far as chiropractors go, i went to one that was recommended to me by a friend... for psiatic nerve probs. he was great. he didn't tell me that i had to have "x" amount of sessions to "get better". it was just one session and then he said i could come back if i wanted to, but that it wasn't really necessary. if you're in the l.a. area i could give you his name and number, otherwise i'd have to agree with mr. m that there are a lot of rip off artists out there. try and get a recommendation from a ffriend if you can.

good luck to you and i hope your recovery is speedy and thorough.

Bummer Don! I've hurt my neck on a few occassions.

I agree with Miyagi to a certain extent. This chiropracter might be more interested in taking your money than finding the actual problem.

I've actually pinched a nerve in my neck around 10 yrs ago and the symptons included pain through the shoulder blade and down the arm. I had mild soreness in the disk but the majority of pain existed in the back region especially when I turned my head.

My advise, see a sports med doctor to determine the extent of the injury.

I'm setting an appointment myself, since I seem to have reoccuring neck injuries. I've heard through doctors that a pinch nerve can turn into a reoccurring problem.

I also agree with Karl. Make sure you train with individuals you can trust when you return.

                    late bro........

I used to think that Chiropractors were all quacks, but I hurt my back when I was with my wife, visiting her family in the midwest and she convinced me to go to the family Chiropractor and after all the pain I was in, I was able to be pain free in two days.
I started to go to one that was my friend's wife and she has loved the fact that I do BJJ when they do the neck cranks, for a while, I was going monthly.

As with any vocation/profession, there are many great ones and many bad ones too.
I was on a plane, sat next to one Chiropractor and after a while, he was telling me that with his adjustments, he was able to cure the flu in hours, and also cure cancer.
I kept jabbing my wife in the side, every time this dude was saying something that I thought was full of it. He also was using crystals along with his adjustments to cure many ailments. Crystal healing might work, but that is one area that I don't believe in. But then again, years ago, I didn't believe in Chiropractors either.
But I have several friends that went into this field of healing and I respect them for their vocation. I still have friends that think that Chiropractors are quacks, and break people's necks more than curing them. But as each year goes by, the insurance companies realize what a valuable asset Chiropractic treatments can do to help people with pain with their backs and their necks, not to mention other assortments of illnesses and ailments. A wise Chiropractor will know what they can do and can't do.
There are some Chiropractors that will try to keep you coming back so that they will have steady cash flow, but those are the greedy ones or ones that are starved for business.
Reminds me of my childhood doctor, he would keep telling my parents that I had to come back next week to see my progress. Finally, my parents realized that he was just a bad doctor that wanted the weekly visit to pad his bank account. My parents are of the generation where they give total respect and faith in doctors.

Unless you live in a small town, I would go to a recommended chiropractor and get an evaluation of your injury.
As you can see, there are some strong opinions for and against Chiropractors here.
                          The decision is yours.

I think massage therapy combined with chiropractic if necessary would be a good combo. I've only gone to massage after tweaking my neck, never chiro.

If you get a good massage therapist they can clue you in to your trouble areas and help you focus on why you're tight here or there. All the injuries I sustained while grappling were developed from sitting all day with poor posture and walking around with my shoulders and chest "flexed". Grappling just brought out the fact that my muscles were tight and ready to be pulled.

It takes a long time to heal

I think you're just going to have to wait a while. Sorry.

I had similar problems when a classmate dropped me on my head several times to escape an armbar. He outweighed me by 100 pounds or so. It took about a year and a half before my neck was 100% again.

I hope you recover more quickly than me though.
