Hmmmm... I can see this being good and bad. I want Pride to keep the ring, I actually prefer it to a cage generally, I also want Pride to keep their rules. I'd love it if they merged their rules... as in, elbows, soccer kicks and knees to a downed opponent are ALL OK... but I don't see that happening.

The real thing worrying me though is that when something like this happens the quality can go down simply because they've got it in the bag. The don't need to get MMA fans watching their events over someone elses, because they've got the biggest and baddest out there, effectively a monopoly. I'm hopeful though, it could turn out absolutely brilliantly

Well if they carry the rules across both organisations will lose their primary USP and with no differentiation i can see this being a bad thing, if they are smart and keep it respectively seperate then I can see absolutely no problem at all. Although they have bought out their primary competitor its only within a neice market, its part of a much larger market that is competitive martial arts, so they need to keep it on top of its game. Apart from the commited and diehard fans of MMA they could lose their appeal and ultimately lose theirs spectators to other areas of martial arts. Maybe we will see another established organisation creep in also.
