With all due respect, I have found that the ankle lock is useful enough but I really clamp it on and use my forearm in a crush mode on the calf. IT HURTS> It won't leave you crippled but here's the point...

I have found that most PLAYERS won't press it to destruction. In fact I think we can be thankful that there are not more serious injuries. The ankle can be nearly dislocated before there is serious pain. Some guys have a tolerance to it and some have limber joints.

I won't let some newb rotate out of it or play the yank it game. Sometimes they just need to feel it. Mostly it's a transitional hold to get another joint, limb or a choke as you move about.

Rotational torque causes more immediate damage. You can twist your own ankle trying to escape it.

My brother has had his torn apart more than once. (It wasn't me)

Your not really supposted to be using your forearm its to meaty your supposted to you the blade of your forearm which is by the wrist area where its all bone....that's the most effective way.Its not about the submission itself its so easy to escape because most players even bjj blackbelts have the wrong leg placement to control the opponents legs and body...when you straighten your toes to the right you un hook there legs and sit up...way to easy...Bas rutten himself says straight foot locks are no good that they only hurt in practice but not in a real fight and its true....but you can catch a noob in it for sure...it doesnt work good for me or against me because i train with very high level guys and not noobs.

Again, no disrespect but I have seen how fast these joints can be destroyed. (rotational torque) Once the straight lock is isolated you simple lean over it to destroy the knee...

The straight ankle lock is a destruction technique. It takes a bit more force than most are willing to use.

If you think it's easy to escape someone is doing it wrong... (IMHO)

The only way that escape would work is if you used some lubrication. I would say you're getting out before the lock is isolated. (???) It should work if applied with due force, even on you. LOL

        Interesting...

I need to get back into it. You artists have all the fun!

Leg locks scare the hell out of me, so whenever I counter an attempt I punish them as hard as I can.

            Ankle locks? Toe holds?

            Anyone???

Tell me why or why not and how you set them up? (If you set them up?) Or do you use them to set up chokes or arm locks...Thanks kindly in advance

            Lets roll
            phucking love leg locks.

My setup for kneebar is this: I "screw up". Turtle myself and give my back to my partner. Just as my partner tries to get his hooks in, i roll forward(while grabbing one of his legs. Somewhat flipping him over me. Most of the time they will land to either side, one leg should be in your control, pinch your knees around his thigh like you would for an armbar and pull his knee towards you.

              hello,

agreed. it appears in many cases that the setup is done in a sloppy manner, permiting the opponent to straighten the leg and turn out the toes to defend. then, if the player is "married" to the position (unable or unwilling to give up the hold) the opponent can begin correcting the situation to thier advantage.

watch deanlister sometime to see an example of how to set up properly. quite a show. simple. deliberate. NASTY!!

              thanks.
