  • How to fight a Kicking Specialist

O.K., you are up against someone who is an expert kicker. How should you approach the fight? Assumptions: It is a street fight with no rules and no gloves. You don't want to go to the ground but you may end up there anyway. This is a private poll and no one can see your vote except the moderators.

    Hit low and hard.

Use Thai kicks or if you have hard soled shoes, front snap/push kicks to the shin/knee/thigh/groin.

If the kicker can box and grapple as well, whomever can get the upperhand in that range will probably finish it.

^ Gotta agree, first thing you should do is kick the guy in the balls as hard as you can. And when he bends down in pain knee him in the head as hard as you can... After that, there's a whole list of shit you can do

Remeber it's a street fight with no rules, so I would do every little dirty trick possible bite, eye poke anything...

Remember this guy is a kicking specialist. What is your strategy for getting inside of his kicks?

In the first post we were asked to assume this was a street fight without rules.

My question is how do you know this guy is a "specialist"? Is he wearing his soccer uniform?

A TKD Specialist? Katateka? What is on his feet? Is this guy carrying around his "kicking" trophies?

          Hello?

I voted for a hard throw... same old game, put him on the deck.

          Most likely by (low) kanibasami.

I would recognize his stance for starters.

if you really want to know how to deal with kicks, learn muay thai. you need to be a good striker with lots of experience dealing with kicks in sparring. legs checks, blocking/destruction with the elbows, footwork, kick catches, are the best ways of dealing with kicks.

muay thai has many subtle strategies to deal with kicks. for example, instead of completely removing your leg from the range of your opponents kick, you can bring it back only just enough so that he clips the top part of his foot on your hardened shin instead. use the points of your elbows to intercept some of his kicks, he wont be throwing kicks much longer. you also learn to cut short the power of other peoples strikes and kicks while you evade and block strikes coming at you.

Would you really try and catch a 90 mph tae kwon do roundhouse?

Dick, no matter how many times that fight gets posted, I enjoy watching it. Believe it or not, that TKD guys side kick is hard and you can tell by the smack landing square in the thaiboxers solar plexus. Unfortunately, the thaiboxer probably does 500 situps a day...

I still say its the fighter and not entirely the art. This TKD does much worse.

And this one does much better

i was just showing hardball that it can be done. it wasnt really a comparison of style, rather just showing him its possible to catch fast hard kicks if you are good enough. there are also ways to cut short the power of such strikes, as you probably already know tom.
