I saw a documentary or some sort of program a few years ago on Tyson and he's not very coordinated. He even admitted as much on the show. He says that all he knows is boxing and he isn't good at any other sport.

They showed him shooting a basketball and he looked worst than a geek with a concave chest. I couldn't believe it.

All this debate about him learning grappling assumes he can learn it. With a lifetime of nothing but boxing, and based on that documentary, I don't think Tyson stands a chance against NHB fighters.

In a K-1 match, he might win a few just on his punching ability alone. But against the big and strong K-1 fighters who can protect themselves, he wouldn't do well.

Mike Tyson isn't a poor athlete, he just hasn't done any other sports. He has great reflexes, strength, and quickness, so he could be good at other sports if motivated. Ali was the same way, he never participated in any other sports, I read that he could not hit a baseball that was thrown slowly, but it was just because he had not done it before. The people who reach the top in boxing are great athletes. The top heavyweights make more money than any other athletes. If any NHB, Kick boxer, or other fighting sport athlete thought he could be heavyweight boxing champ, he would be in boxing. One can be a top Kick Boxer or NHB athlete and not be a good boxer. Rick Roufus, a top kick boxer has a dismal boxing record. Laverne Clark has a boxing record of about .500 with his wins coming against no name fighters. This is not to put down Roufus or Clark, I respect them both, it is just to show that to reach the top in boxing, one has to be a top athlete. The type of athlete at the top of boxing compared to NHB or Kick Boxing is like comparing the athletes in the NBA with the pro volleyball players. The volleyball guys are good athletes compared with the general public, most played basketball, but they can't make it in the NBA. The best athletes are in the sports where the money is the best. If NHB or Kick Boxing paid more than boxing, pro football, basketball, etc. you would see a different group of fighters at the top of the sport. I doubt we would be debating whether Shamrock could bet Igor. Both of these guys are good, and they are fun to watch, but if NHB paid more than boxing, I don't think either of them would be a top fighter.

Why would you say the top boxer is a better athlete than a top NHB guy or top kickboxer? Just cos they make more money??

        C'mon.....

              Kick Boxers

The only way kick boxers have a chance with a boxer is if the boxer stands outside and "agrees" to take the kicks. But when you're talking about a *pressure* fighter, those kicks don't mean anything when the kickboxer is up against the ropes in a phone booth ... and so what you will have is a half-ass (kick)boxer getting murdered against an absolutely elite-level boxer in tight.

To think that some half-ass kickboxer is going to outpunch Mike Tyson in his prime is simply ludicrous. Like Fil, Hawk, Keith and others have said, these kickboxers are nothing but mediocre boxers "who use their feet too." If they had truly World Class punching skills, then they would be out there throwing those world class punches and making that money. It's that simple.

The reason they aren't competing in the top ranks of boxing is because they can't. They simply don't have that kind of fistic ability, which is why they are fighting for peanuts in K-1. All any boxer has to do to whip a kickboxer is to stay on him and keep it in tight.

I'd love to see you say that after a Crocop death kick to your leg. Or your ribcage. Or your head.

We've all seen many fighters who aren't conditioned to leg kicks go down within 1-2 leg kicks many many times. To argue that superior "fistic" ability will win all is just ridiculous. Kickboxers don't just sit in place waiting to get bum rushed by their opponents...they circle around the ring too.

I just met Tyson at the Alladin casino, he was "training" for an exebition tour of Aulstrailia, he got in the ring with Jeff Fennick ( the guy that beat Azuma Nelson years ago when Azuma had the flu). Mike has no chance for a comeback, he got in the ring, throw some flurries that had the crowd cheering, did some bobing and weaving , and threw some left hooks that brought back flashes of his days as the greatest and most devastating fighter ever. He finished about 20 minutes later and took some pictures with the crowd and answered questions, like how would you do against the greatest fighters in history in their primes? Mike said, 'I dont know, but i guarentee whatever the outcome they would know they had been in a fight'
TOO bad Miek didnt train in MMA and BJJ 9 years ago, he be KTFO of people in the UFC and Pride. No one could stand with him

Too me, that's really that last word on 'would Tyson this or that'.

Take away discussions of style for a moment and make a list of the most capable fighters on the planet in the last twenty years. Royce Gracie is probably on that list, Cro Cop might be on that list, Mike Tyson is certainly be on it.

With Tyson's Cus D'Amato era work ethic and savagry, he would have been a killer in any fight sport he trained for, boxing just happened to be the route he took.

look at this video compilation of tyson. he was indeed one of the best standup strikers at one time inmop. he is still probobly one of the best in the world.

his standup was no joke, look how much power and speed he had.

i like this clip here because tyson discusses how he uses his shorter height to his advantage. he mentions how when he was younger he didnt believe in himself because was short lol.

                        top 10 tyson moments.

Tyson was THE best ever in his prime, which was when he faught Spinks. Amazing and blazing speed, A+ head movement with the bobbing and weaving on the way in, power was A+ also. Chin was pretty strong too, he took some seroius blows before Douglas dropped him, as well as Tucker who didnt drop him but caught him flush.
Mikes critics say he didnt fight the greatest of competiton, but think about how great Mike would have been had he been fighting the Alis, fraizers, Young Holmes, Listons, etc, if he was fighting competiton that great, he woulda evolved into an even better fighter. No doubt, Mike was the best

i feel bad for mike tyson. he had a lot of emotional problems, and there were a lot of people who took advantage of tyson and took his money instead of trying to help him. he was only a kid when he became the champ. do you guys really think a 20 year old kid with such inner turmoil would know how to manage that much money and fame so suddenly??

Tyson would get his legs broken by Hoost, even though Im a Tyson fan. Maybe if he charged, landed Hoost in a corner and gave em some good shots. But that isnt likely.
