  • BJJ/MMA classes in Pasadena, CA

Hey, does anyone know of any BJJ/MMa classes in Pasadena?

I moved back to CA a few weeks ago & am pretty close by. Didn't the Machados open a school here, or do they just have the one in Tarzana?

I'd like to pull out the ol' gi and try to shake the rust off, so if anyone knows of any quality instructors here in Pasadena, I'd appreciate any input.

    Thanks.

    hahaha… hey JOHN! welcome back!

    (lol)

the machado’s place is on Colorado, just east of Lake. I believe john and rigan are there a couple times a week each. otherwise there’s a black belt… paulo(?).. and kathy brothers (I think she’s still there).

I don’t have any other info other than that. have a good time!

Hmmm.... I called 411 and they had nothing under either Machado or jiu jitsu.

        Anyone else?

        Thanks.

(lol)… dude, why don’t you call one of the other academy’s and get the number, or just go down? they’re VERY receptive to visitors…

I did. All they have is a voicemail.

On Saturdays, Lonnie, a brown belt, usually teaches.

This guy is good, very good.
I used to train with him at Torrance.

                  Sweep,

Is that the Lonnie who trained with the Machado's?

If it is tell him I said hello.

jg - don't hold your breath. sweep hasn't ever been up there. (lol)

sweep, so how was vacation...??? ya bastid. (hehe)

pit, when you gonna go? maybe i'll go, not intro myself right away, hand you your ass, then intro myself. (lol) but if you hand me MY ass (which is more than likely), then i'll just intro myself as "sweep" (lmao).

if you go, have a good time! kathy is cool, and easy on the eyes. (lol)

Sheee it, now how do you know that I've never been there since you never train.
                      HA!

Uhhhhh, Judo dude, the place in Pasadena is a Machado school, so yes, this is the Lonnie that IS training with the Machado's.

Keep that up Karl, I'll post your phone number here, but then again, with your skill as a phone receptionist, it won't matter since you'll connect them to the wrong party anway. I don't know how you keep your job.
Maybe your boss is some BBW that needs attention....

                      HA!!!!!!!

Just got back from there. Met a brown belt (Mica) (sp?), who seemed very sincere. His face lit up when I told him I knew Fabio, who turned out to be one of his best friends. (Hell, everyone likes Fabio.) It was kind of a small place, and there weren't too many guys, like 4 white belts & a 3-stripe blue. Maybe more will come on other days (plus, it was almost closing time).

Anyway, as for me whippin' a$$. LOL, I'm so outta shape, it's pathetic. I have a broken ankle that "healed" untreated, my neck is killing me from a 2700 mile road trip ... all the while going 60 mph in a Ryder (LOL) ... but hey, I have the fast metabolism of an A.D.D. guy who can't sit still, so in a couple of months or so I hope to be a pistol again

The guys seemed real laid back and cool. They invited me to train for free for a couple of weeks, and they even let me bring my dog in

Anyway, thanks Sweep & Karl for your input; it looks like a fun place.

                          Hey Dawg:

You pull into town, and head for the nearest BJJ school and go train, after a long road trip?

                          You are an animal.

                          HA!

I was in Utah, Salt Lake City last week, and I did think of going to see Pedro Sauer's school in Provo. But I don't think my wife would approve since we were on vacation and two days before we were leaving, I screw up my thumb and tried to hide the injury when I came home, but had to ice it a lot. I was thinking of saying that I wanted to go to the school to get a t-shirt and then maybe try to jump in a class, but that would have been stretching it. Oh well.
