a thread for your favorite Pre-historic MMA fights

Some people know about Muhammed Ali vrs Antonio Inoki in 1976

Billed as an exhibition, but some of those drop leg kicks look painful!

But more interesting to me was the undercard!

Andre the giant vrs Chuck Wepner!!!

While I will say Andre is a big mofo, unfortunately him realistically fighting some athletic in a real unfixed ring match is a bit of a farce.

The physical deformity that made him a giant also caused him to move slowly because his joints were in constant pain. I guess wrestling in the WWF was the fun he wanted to have before he kicked. But yeah guy was hurtin all the time.

The Ali deal I had never heard of that must have been an awesome bout. I'd love to see vids of that.

Arrichion fighting for his third crown in Pankration at the 564 B.C. Olympics. His opponent had his back and was choking him out, but Arrichion submitted him with an ankle lock that either dislocated or broke his ankle. His opponent signaled defeat, and Arrichion dropped dead immediately after. Arrichion's corpse was crowned the victor.

Not quite pre-historic, but pretty old.

Inoki was a horrible wrestler though.

As a young man, Andre the Giant was agile, was surprisingly quick, had a flat stomach, and was an athlete in every sense of the word.

                  The Inoki/Ali fight/farce was dreadful.

I met Andre when I was little kid, about 8 or 9 or so. BIG guy. Nice as heck.

The guy I used to share an office with (until he retired fairly recently) was an old school "wrassler" who used to ride the circuit with Andre. They had to remove the rear seat of the car so Andre could get in. In the hour or so between here and the next town, he could drink a case of beer. They were like tiny little cups in his hands.

Andre the Giant. Yes, many fond memories...I believe Hulk Hogan was the only person able to body slam all 520 lbs of him.
