this stuff looks pretty damn effective too. tons of counterattacks. it amazes me how some systems can be so ancient and yet so advanced. even thousands of years ago there were incredibly advanced martial arts being practiced and used be people.

krav maga was made after ww2 by a guy who just combined a bunch of stuff like wrestling, boxing, and weightlifting, anything he could incorporate into a system of self defense which grew into its own system. i dont think the guy who created krav maga had training in abir. krav maga is more modern and includes guns and whatnot.

abir looks softer, more technical, and more fluid than krav maga which is very str8 forward and violent. abir looks very hardcore though, i saw some real nasty stuff in many of the counterattacks.

Is it battle tested? You didn't post in actual combat footage. Only forms or one steps.

didnt you watch the first clip?? the guys family had the task of being the bodyguards of the king of jordan at one time, and it also states that the headmaster of the system instructs counterterrorism agents in israel and in other countries, so they must find value in his system. the israelites fought many wars, its not surprising they had war arts. shit, some of them were able to hold their own against roman legions at one time.

just because it's old it doesn't mean it's not useful. It's how they train that makes a style effective. Also, certain styles require a person to be extremely fast/agile with naturally quick reflexes. It does not mean it's a bad style, it does mean however, that the style is not for the general popluation.

A friend of mine has some videos of this guy. They were given to him by a teacher he knows from Israel who is also a martial artist. They are really good videos and he shows some pretty cool and nasty stuff in them. There are a lot of breaks and kill techniques in the system. I like it because on the video he does not play around. Everything he does is geared to ending the fight as quickly as possible. Even when he goes to the ground he does not play around.

Dick you mentioned that some of the Israelites were actually able to hold there own agains Roman soldiers back in the day. If you read the Old Testament and read the story of King David you will read about David and his "mighty men" which was a group of about 300-400 warriors. They pretty much defeated every one they went to battle with. I am not saying that these 300 men defeated tens of thousands of enemy soldiers but there are many stories about them going into battle and coming out victoriously.

Thanks for posting the videos...good find

                          Tim

cause putting threads in this forum ensures that more people will see it since its the one that people look at most.
