Everything he does is geared to ending the fight as quickly as possible. Even when he goes to the ground he does not play around.
Dick you mentioned that some of the Israelites were actually able to hold there own agains Roman soldiers back in the day. If you read the Old Testament and read the story of King David you will read about David and his "mighty men" which was a group of about 300-400 warriors. They pretty much defeated every one they went to battle with. I am not saying that these 300 men defeated tens of thousands of enemy soldiers but there are many stories about them going into battle and coming out victoriously.
Thanks for posting the videos...good find
Tim
Looking at the clips I saw modern martial arts, Aikido, some kung-fu etc. Sort of reminded me of my own art's founder's claims (origin of his Pancration). Reminded me of, when one watches a TV show like Hercules or what have you, and the charactters have a Los Angeles accent or do modern martial arts moves.
Not that that takes away from the guy's possible effectiveness, by the way.
Say, Dick, what's with the picture of that Domican actor from "The Fresh Prince of Bel Aire," Alfonso Rebeiro. Just wondering.

We talk about such things, etc. There is no indication of any figthing arts. I don't mean they may have not had any. Just that there is no indication of such. The Israelites were supposed to rely on their god's (Jehovah) direct intervention through their Ark of The Covenant (it's legendary power recreated in the Indiana Jones movies). That and their god's direct intervention through their prophet's - as when that god, through Moses parted the Red Sea, or rained fire from heaven through Elijah, etc, protected Daniel when he was thrown in with lions, etc. There is a lot of misunderstanding on all this stuff. As when people take Samson having lost his power due to having allowed his hair to be cut when what his long hair had to do with was something called a Nazerrite vow (setting oneself apart in service of the God of Israel and therefore empowered by that God for his service). His having allowed his hair to be cut having been his having turned from his god, and with that, his vessel-ship from which that power was manifested.

Liberty,
I never said that the Israelites of old knew martial arts and I never said the Bible mentioned anything about any fighting systems. I simply made that comment because Dick had mentioned something about the Israelites of the past being able to defend themselves against the Roman Army.
I to have read the Bible many times through and I agree with you that the Israelites were to always depend on their God to give them victories. I was simply pointing out the fact that King David and his group of warriors were feared by man because of their fighting ability. Of course if you want to get more into it then you would have to point out that all of their victories were given to them by God because King David not go into battler without praying and fasting before hand in order to hear God. This can all be discussed in another thread.

12And they took Lot, Abram's brother's son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.
13And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.
14And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.
15And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.
16And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.
