  • Challenge Matches and BJJ's Deadly Techniques

Why is it that whenever a striking artist gets tapped by a BJJ artist, they always claim to have "deadly techniques" that they "could have used, but didn't"? I mean, that kind of torques me off. What do they think a heel-hook, a knee-bar, or an arm-bar would do to them? Hands down, BJJ has to have some of most painful, no-nonsense, crippling attacks than any other martial art out there, and I'm SURE that pretty much every BJJ artist who has EVER gotten into a challenge match with a striker has had to restrain himself on how hard he cranks the arm or how long he chokes his opponent out, assuming he gets/notices the sub in the first place.

Another thing, NOT ONLY does BJJ have amazing submissions, but it also has a tight position game when you tie-up and go to the ground. Even if you wanted to use those "deadly techniques", you might had a hard time doing it when mounted!

Over all, even if the other martial arts did have moves that could kill you with one hit or whatever, I would rather be able to control and submit my opponent than kill or cripple him for life... And even then, if I wanted to, I could.

    exactly

Ryan I think you summed it up perfectly. It takes far more skill to control your opponent and decide how things will finish, than any of their "deadly" techniques.
Also most "deadly" techniques, eye gouges, striking or collapsing the wind pipe, etc... require little to no skill whatsoever.

How would they use those deadly moves when their being choked out.I think that part of the reason that BJJ isnt as big in the United States as Karate and stuff is because BJJ isnt flashy and most people think rolling around with anothre guy is gay anyway. But in Karate, they get to do flying kicks and kill you.In BJJ you just as easily kill a person with a choke or neck crank if you wanted to anyway.I also like BJJ better because of how genral the people are.In BJJ the instructers will sit down and talk with you for like an hour after class. In karate you have to like bow before you talk to your instructer.

        Very true

Both of you make good points. BJJ techs take a lot skill and the classes are much more loose.

BJJ really is for the tough.

A true martial artist can easily defeat a sport grappler under true no rules.
When you add small joint manipulations, biting, eye gouges, fish hooking, stomping to the back of the ankles and to the throat you neutralise many of the grapplers best weapons.

So to refer to "deadly techniques" it may well be these types of techniques they refer to.

              ok

Shimora I'm going to assume, and pray, your joking. But if not, isn't the guy who controls the opponent, as a grappler does, in a better position to use the "deadly" techniques? Also r u saying grapplers are not true martial artist?

That's a bunch of mumbo jumbo

                Shimora>>

Like Qkfx, I too hope that you are joking. Most of those things that you mentioned I've seen children do to each other. Not to say that those techs don't have their place, but against a decent fighter (striker or grappler), they would almost be worthless.

Again, like Qkfx was saying... Are you telling us that sport grapplers aren't true martial artists?

You know, whenever I heard somebody call you a troll, I was always like "Not really"... But now I can see it first-hand, and it's pretty obvious; though, I have to tell you, it might be a good thing to have trolls like you on the forum to get the conversation going. After all, your not very offensive.

I know what you mean.Do they really think I'm just gonna sit there and let them claw out my eyes in a fight? No,I'm gonna be the aggressor and just dominate the guy I'm fighting. If I got the guy in an armlock or any other hold for that matter and he goes to claw at my eyes that's just gonna make me crank on the hold even harder!

Shimora does have a point with bitting. I've noticed how easy it would be to bite if your in a traingle or armbar or even in someones guard. Also, say you try to pass the guard and stand up, your in a good position for groin strikes. I'm not saying Jitsu sucks for street fighting but you have to be careful... There rules in NHB for a reason.

                      passive

Passive I see what you're saying with the biting. But I have to disagree because if you go to sink your teeth into someone and they really tighten up the choke you won't be albe to bite. On the arm bar, I think it's a matter of the guys pain tolerance, I know if my arm snap I won't be biting. Maybe a Lober or Tyson could continue with lunch though. I totalyy agree with the nut strikes though, which is why I think the closed guard is more practical for the street.

we have to differentiate between something painful and something that ends the fight ...if someone bites my calf when i cinch the armbar im going to rip his arm off...so you have to ask yourself are you just going to make him uncomfortable or are you going to submit him with this strike or that strike..

Qkfx, I agree, if you go through with the armbar and really attempt to break there arm they probably won't be bitting. But if your triangling someone and they bite into you your instincts will make you let go, I certainly would not try one on the street.

Shimora always posts crap like this. I don't think he really believes it. He just likes to get a rise out of us.

                              bunch of crap!

Biting? Come on. How the hell can you bite someone if you are caught in a Triangle. There is no way, the legs are too tight for you to even move your head. Bite me when I am doing an armlock, I will break your arm and I guarantee you will let go. Those childish moves do not work. My friend was bitten while he sunk a rear naked choke on a guy, all he had to do was close the choke harder and the guy could not bite anymore at all, almost broke his jaw.

The lamest thing I have heard in a long time.
