Has anyone seen this show? I've seen two and the two I saw were great. The karate episode in Japan was just wild! That kind of TMA (traditional martial arts) will work on the street for sure.

Anyways... good show. They'll be going to Mexico City to training in boxing and find a challenge there as well.

I saw the ones on Kali and Kung Fu, they were great. They shot one on Kajukenbo at Sifu Christian Smith's place, Tribull MMA, in San Jose a month or two ago. It airs Feb. 29th. I'm pretty jazzed to see that one.

I like it better than Human Weapon so far. I'm looking forward to the Silat episode (although I'm sure it will have some weird crap in it...). Its in West Java and invovles the Suwandas so hopefully it won't suck like the Human Weapon one did.

This could be a new martial art. Man vs crash test dummy. The way they get those shots in there before the dummy can defend is a tribute to their skill.

Well my hopes were dashed. It started off well with Dadang showing some good stuff, but then regressed to watered down, bad kickboxing with equally bad choreographed weapns stuff. No doubt both Dadang and Rita are extremely skilled, but they showed little actual Silat, or at least not the Silat I've learned.

I completely agree Jeff5. I hate to say it but I enjoyed the Human Weapon show more than FQ or Last One Standing just because HW demonstrated more authentic self-defense and there was more historical and cultural background included.

I had big hopes for these shows but I don't care for the competitions in the end. The HW: Krav Maga episode has been my favorite so far because the challenge at the end emphasized self-preservation and realism.

I must admit with all due respect that I was also disappointed with the silat I saw on this episode.

The training was intense enough but the ART looked like glorified TKD.

                  So much for sport silat...

the first reviews led me to want to check it out; the latter ones say, eh, maybe not...

in other words, seems to depend on the episode?

                      Overall I think it's a good show.

They split up and one will train the "traditional" way, while the other will train in a modern urban environment(ie a regular gym).
This is nice, b/c I think it lets people see both the old school roots of a martial arts, as well as showing how it's accessible to modern everyday people.

Of course, what they learn is dependent on their instructors. Both of them seem to have really good attitudes about what they do, so it's basically a matter of what the instructor has them do.

The kali one was GREAT. One was training Pekiti Tirsia with Guro Leo Gaje in the jungles of the Phillipines. I've never seen the traditional/cultural side of kali so that was really interesting for me.

I'm interested in the next episode. I've always been curious to learn about savate so they've got me intrigued already.
