  • MT & BJJ? Or just CSW?

I've been training on and off for quite some time in MT, BJJ, with an occassional weekend stop at the local CSW academy. Although I like all three, I trained this way because of my schedule and trying to match my free time with any class that I could get into. So, it was a convenience factor because of the three, I could work out on either Friday night, Saturday afternoon, or Sunday morning - one day of which I could train if I was in town.

But, now, my schedule is getting more hectic with the addition of another family member. So, my question is: Can I focus on CSW and get similar benefits to combining MT & BJJ? So, cut out the MT & BJJ and just do CSW?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm a student of CSW under Erik, so I'll give my opinion, as bias as it may be.

I think the stand-up in CSW is second to none. A blend of MT, Boxing, Jun Fan and Savate - and all of it battle tested. So to answer the question from a stand up point of view, I would say without question - CSW.

From a ground point of view, the only thing I would highlight is that Erik's material is focussed on no-Gi submission, so there is a contrast to BJJ. Therefore it depends on your ultimate goal, and how much emphasis you place on the Gi, before leaving BJJ behind.

If I was given the choice, from an MMA point of view, to train at one gym and one gym alone - I would pick Erik's.

I hear they got some tasty burgers.

      Mmmmmm

I would DEFINITELY pick CSW over the MT/BJJ blend. Especially since Erik Paulson is certified under Dan Inosanto. I'm jealous of you, to have a CSW gym near where you live.

All we have in Augusta is just Greubel's MMA gym. There are no other schools here. Oh well.

      Good training to ya.
