  • New Coleman or Old Coleman: Still Boring!

I just watched the "new" Coleman in the Pride Tourny. No doubt about it, Coleman is one of the most effective, dangerous fighters in the world, but he is also one of the most boring fighters to watch.

The only time I find myself excited in a Coleman fight is when Coleman stands to get a whooping. I don't like the stand up rule very much, but put me into the middle of a Mark Coleman ground 'n pound, and I'm begging for a stand up.

I really feel that Coleman's boring fighting style, despite Coleman's great accomplishments, is why he sat out a year after winning the Pride Torny.

Truer words have never been spoken. Not that I care if a fighter is boring or not, but if there's an MMA fighter I don't like, its Coleman. I'll pick any fighter over Coleman, maybe even Dan Henderson. I want someone ruthless like Silva or Pele to beat his ass, even if I know realistically they couldn't. Maybe Vovchanchyn can Enson him or something, I don't know. I can't think of a fighter who can slaughter Coleman the way I want and can actually do it if they fought. We should run a poll of who we'd like to see beat up Coleman

Coleman seems to have been nervous or concerned about oncie guy: Ken Shamrock. Pride offered him a fight with Shammy, but he refused to take it on the grounds the notice was too short. Why? Because the Lion's Den comes up with good game plans to win. They're not guaranteed the victory of course. The Den has had many set backs, but if had to pick one team to come up with a way to beat Coleman, it would be the Den. Hell, they did it already with Pete Williams.

Coleman does not strike me as a guy who goes to pot in between bouts. I just don't see Coleman putting on a beer gut and smoking Marlboro Reds in between fights. So the too short notice does not work in my book. Also, Coleman has only one style: ground and pound. He's not out there practicing his high thai kicks.

No I think Coleman was nervous about Shammy and the den. I would love to see that fight.

Have to disagree with you there champ!

Coleman's definitely not a boring fighter eventhough his style has produced some of the most boring fights.

There are several differences between Coleman and other g'n'p fighters: he looks to pass guard/ He's not content with riding the clock/ He takes advantage of oppurtunistic positions/ and he has incredible power and KO ability!

I think the following attributes makes him exciting. Hell, you know damn well that he has the ability to dish out a tremendous amount of punishment during any given fight! When's the last time anyone tapped out Vov with strikes and simply demolished?

As far as fighting Shamrock on short notice, he admitted that he was apprehensive. That's the reason, he's the best fighter in the world instead of the same individual who lost 3 matches in a row. Coleman realizes that he needs to prepare correctly and that he needs a game plan when fighting topnotch opponents....

        later dudes......

          Oh yeah...boring

That guy is a prehistoric hitting monster. Nothing really impressive. Ground and pound: that is not martial art to me! Pinning the opponent down for 30 minutes and smashing is face requires no techniques, no fighting intelligence. That guy is not a warrior to me. Boring boring boring!

Coleman not a warrior? WHAT? the man as fight the best in the world! When he come in the ring he is there to do is job and thats takedown ground and pound your ko thank you, simple as that. And thats a warrior!
A warrior is a great fighter whit a good head and whit a lot of respect for he's opponent and Coleman is that!. Coleman is not only a great warrior but also a great ambassador for the sport.
What is a real Martial Artist in our time? I really dont know! You know why cause now everything is mix up Muay Thai, Grappling, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxe, Ground and Pound, wrestling and the list go on and on its all mix up and its call Mixed Martial Arts and if someone best weapon is he's strenght and ground and pound technic and he use it and win he's war then thats a true WARRIOR!

Coleman plays an incredibly conservative game. He is content to stay in the guard and punch down. Generally, he does not attempt improve position or go for submission (I know there are exceptions here). If I were a promoter, he'd be one of the last guys on my list.

Other sports have dealt with super-conservative tactics like this and decided for the sake of the fans to get rid of it. For example, in basketball, many less talented teams were successful in running a slow down game. They'd take the ball down and pass it around for a good 10 minutes, eating up the clock. Perhaps a few purists liked it, but for the fans it sucked big time. So the NBA and College put in shot clock.

Watching Coleman hold somebody on the ground for 15 minutes and punch them in the ribs is BORING!!!!!!!!!!!
