  • Frank Trigg's latest talk....

In the last issue of Grappling Mag, Twinkletoes says a few interesting things.
First, he says that there is no way that Kevin Jackson should have lost against Frank Shamrock because Jackson is a much better athlete and physical specimen. He insists it was just a matter of not being prepared with submission grappling. But then in the subsequent UFC when Jackson got armbarred by Bohlander, before the fight Jackson said that he was humbled by his previous experience and that he had been training in submissions. Yet he got armbarred again anyway. What gives?
Also, Trigg says that if you take JJM, Renzo, Burnett, Militech, and Sakurai in a tournament that Renzo would be the best, so for this reason he wants Renzo. I actually don't see anyone beating Burnett in a MMA fight.

    Welcome back, Miyagi-san.

Trigg sounds like Royce Alger, only with more to back it up.

Trigg is an example of fighters can't be thinkers.

        Triggs is the man!

He may not be a rocket scientist but that's not how he makes his money.

I'd definitely like to see Triggs against Renzo. Renzo couldn't do anything against him in abu dhabi and I think Triggs would punish him in the guard. I'd put my money on triggs.........

Keithws, I'm not trying to single you out, but why the hell does everyone attach an "s" at the end of Frank Trigg's name?

Anyway, Burnett already has two losses and I can see him losing more. I do think that he, Pelé, Matt Hume (if healthy), Matt Hughes, Hayato Sakurai, Renzo Gracie and Carlos Newton could beat the snot out of Trigg. He's very good, but what a mouth!

Mikey Burnett was totally abused by JJ Machado at Abu Dhabi. Renzo's stand up game is very good. His kicks would definately weaken Trigg. Trigg would get the takedown and Renzo would catch him there.

Renzo beat him at Abu Dhabi and Trigg survived due to excellent stall tactics. In NHB Trigg will be trying to punch Renzo and this will create opportunities for Renzo to catch him.

Abu Dhabhi 2000 was Mikey Burnett's first ever submission grappling competition. That's not his forte. He is a mean puncher and extremely dangerous in NHB. JJM would not be able to face him in NHB. Burnett's other loss to Militech was bs. Burnett was robbed in that decision and Militech knows it.
I don't see Renzo catching Trigg on the ground. Trigg is so damn strong. Shoji managed to power out of Renzo's armbar, would Trigg have any problem slamming Renzo to get out of a sub? I think Trigg and Burnett would be the big fight in this group of light middleweights.

well IMO Hughes, Trigg, Burnett(retired so I guess he doesnt count), and Sakurai are the BEST 4 lightweights out there....Renzo I doubt be able to handle Trigg or Hughes stength and conditioning.....although he would fair better against Sakurai.....nowadays BJJers just dont really match up that great against strong wrestlers that KNOW submissions.....

Iha x Trigg, JJM x Trigg, Perreira x Hughes, Aguiar (LL but still a BJJ disciple) x Trigg and Hughes, the list goes on and on....

                  Renzo wouldn't catch him!

Renzo had a good showing at KOR by subbing Mo and and some Japanese dude, but he only finishes around 50% of his fights.

Secondly, the only top level fighter Renzo has finished, was Oleg Taktarov back in 97. Oh yes, it's the truth. I would have said Mo if that fight had occured 2 or 3 yrs ago, but Mo's not as good as back when.

Trigg (for rainbow :}) is definitely a top level fighter! Ask Machado, who is without a question on the same level as Renzo when it comes to BJJ.

I agree with Miyagi on Burnett. That boy can hold his on against anyone within 10-15 pounds. Machado would have never gotten that fight to the ground in NHB.

As far as that list, the opponents trigg would have a problem with are Matt Hughes, Renzo, burnett, and newton. And, I'd have to say his hardest fight would come against Hughes.

Ground Control: By most accounts, Trigg soundly beat Renzo on points in Abu Dhabi- however Renzo's Gracie favoritism by the sheik earned him the win. It's like Royler/Viera at the 99 mundial...

Excuses, excuses. Trigg lost to Renzo period. Wrestlers say Trigg won and BJJers say Renzo won. JJM lost to Trigg in Vale Tudo due to a cut. The cut was accidental. Anyone can watch the tape and see that JJ was shooting for a takedown and hit his head on Trigg's knee. Trigg did not knee him and open that cut. Also Renzo is ten times the striker that JJ is, so that adds a new dimension to the fight. Besides, I don't mean to be rude but JJ is fighting with one hand. This dosen't bode well for his ability to punch.

As far as strength Mikey Burnett is stronger than Trigg or Hughes, and he was choked out by JJ. So strength means nothing when someone has your back.

I like Frank Trigg. He is a very tough dude. But to think he will destroy Renzo is a joke.

Ive been on the mat with Burnett,Miletich, and Trigg. I dont see any of them submitting the other, but they all have other strengths. Burnett punching, Trigg wrestling, and Miletich is BIG for a LW. Much bigger than Mikey and bigger than Trigg as well from what i could tell. BTW all these guys can strike if you have watched their previous fights so i just think it would be a matter of whos day it was.

I'll never understand why Burnett has spent the last couple of years whining about Miletich and sitting on that 2-2 record instead of fighting for WEF, IFC or some other promotion. Plenty of good lightweight matchups out there for him. Terrible waste of talent.

JJM x Trigg was pretty one sided for Trigg ground control......he got kneed, cut bad, and Trigg was hammering him when the towel got thrown in.....I like both guys but Trigg is the man NHB
