OK Duchman, That's makes sense to me. Now, as far as I know
a Gracie or GJJ/BJJ Black Belt has never fought in the Russian Sambo title matches. Quite frankly, when something is billed World Championship, in most cases, that's considered the best. However, except for the Olympics, it is my opinion if you intend to have a World Championship it should be where the art originated when that is possible. For many years the USSR and Red China were completely closed off because of politics so it would have been hard to have a World Championship either place. Kopylov was a Sambo based fighter and Branco was GJJ/BJJ. Though I am not
familiar with that fight as far as what happen during the fight, I was under the opinion it was a NHB fight and not a Sambo match or GJJ/BJJ match. Traven defeated at least one maybe two Sambo based fighters when he won a NHB championship in Russia a few years back. Based on what I've seen, GJJ/BJJ has proven itself consistently in tournaments, mixed tournaments, and NHB better then any other art.
