My advise would be to check the pedigree of the instructors and watch a few classes before you make a decision.

    Not that I'm a snob

But in my experience, a lot of MMA schools are actually just a group of thugs that want to get together a couple of times a week and smash each other. Not that there's anything wrong with that I mean, there's a time and a place for everything, and I'm sure a "thug" style MMA class would be the right place for some students, namely young strong fit guys with energy to burn and aggression to work out!

However, personally, I wouldn't go into one of those classes. a because I'd get smashed, and b because the bigstrongthug guys would probably get p!ssed about having to spar a girl But I wouldn't want my man to go to that class now - he could certainly hold his own, but I just don't think it's worth the risk of injury.

Now, I'm not saying ALL MMA classes are like that, which is why I said to check it out thoroughly first. I've done MMA classes where I've felt 100% safe, but they've generally been ones that were attached to a BJJ school.

Good luck - I hope you find what you're looking for!

      Bluecat,

Do the schools you are considering have websites? If so, please post links -- as cakegirl said, a lot depends on the particular instructors you are looking at training under.
