  • Preparations before training

Is there anything that you guys do before going to class? I always eat an hour or an hour 1/2 before class, just so that it's digested and I have energy from it. I also try to rest and take it easy as much as I can the same day as training. I don't really have any mental preporation before class, other than usually watching movies of nino.

I usually drink a couple of cups of water before so I am not dehydrated.

I usually slam a bottle of my favorite tequila and chow down on leftover pizza about ten minutes prior...
No, Just kidding. Actually, I just read through my notes from previous classes and try to focus on one particular aspect or concept that I want to train that night, and see how it applies to what my instructors show me. Timing is my big thing right now, and I've found that trying to conciously keep my level of exertion to about 30%, no matter how fast my opponents are going, has taught me volumes about what it means to do something with skill instead of just forcing it. Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto have said over and over that "It's not how fast it travels, but how soon it gets there that counts." Who knows...maybe next month will be speed or power.
Failing that as a preparation, just call some hookers and have yourself a full on binge before class. Should spike the energy just right...

There's one guy at our school that does everything the wrong way when it comes to prepping for training.

A few times he had to excuse himself and I asked him if he was OK and he said that if he didn't stop he was going to hurl.

Bad at the time he was having all these Vurps....(for those that don't know this, Tim Allen described these; vomit burps, you burp and have some stuff that you ate a few minutes to a few hours ago, nasty stuff.....heh heh, we've all had these, you just didn't know the proper name....)

        I asked him what he did before class;
ate a whole pizza with everything on it.
From then on, I made sure that I mounted him so if he hurled, it would go back on his face, not me...........ugh.

And after this, do you think he learned?
        NO.
He was still eating before class and would still get indigestion.
Maybe it's acid reflux, but then again, I'm not a gastroenterologist, (say that 5 times real fast........)

I try to eat some fruit before training, the fructose helps me....

If I do eat something heavier, I make sure I consume it at least 2 hrs prior to training. I dont like having much more than water close to training. Running, skipping and sparring do NOT mix with a heavy meal.

The one thing I always make sure to do is take a good shit. That way you dont have to worry about it while training. God forbid you get some guy rolling around on you and you get the urge to drop a load. Not a comfortable experience! And I look at it like this I want to hold my genitals one last time in case something bad happens to me.

I think the "after" pratice is important to. You need to properly stretch and cool down your muscles. I also make sure I eat something after pratice... like eggs. Another thing is to keep a notebook and write down and review everything you did that day in class and maybe review it a couple times before the next pratice.

                ROTFLMAO, Bird!

We need to add a new chapter on the fighter's notebook:

"Farting as an aid to spinning armlock from the guard" and

"Is shitting an apponent while he's inside a reverse triangle considered a submission even if he didn't tap?"

                  Reminds me of a story:

I have a few friends that were training at the Torrance Academy with Royce.

Friend A is very good and was going against Friend B (not nearly as experienced.)

Friend B gets Friend A in a reverse triangle and wasn't in danger but tapped. Everyone including Royce went over to Friend B to congratulate him for tapping a tough opponent.

We learned later that Friend A tapped because as in his words:
it smelled so bad that he had to tap, smelled like the guy had a bowel movement and didn't wipe.......................

                  ugh........

                  HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, yeah, I know this should have been posted by Doodie Dude, our own feces expert Zhooooooo........

I like all of these suggestions.

SweepEm>> That guy sounds like a really disciplined champion!
Oldskulbus>> That is a very true, if not often neglected, point.
YeLLa-TiGeR>> How true. I too like to eat a few hours beforehand if the food is heavy.
MikeJKD>> That's awesome! I'm not sure if I have the discipline to do something like that; however, I could see how it could definitely benefit me.
