Your instructor sounds like he's nuts, especially that dumb bell routine he pulled on you!

      LOL @ TV Set.

Haha, the funny thing is, the day TV Set made that post, a homosexual has filed a false complaint with the school because allegedly some of my friends had harassed him. But that situation has been resolved because the guy that filed that complaint has been shown to be talking out of his ass. Bunch of grief for nothing!!

I dont know, my instructor may sound mean or crazy, but I have never seen him get mad, and he is a real laidback guy, should I be worried?? LOL

Muay Thai is the most physicaly demanding sports on th planet. It sounds like this guy is trying to find out if you are dedicated enough to stay. I think he is doing you a favor by being a little rough on you. If you get in a real fight the guy you are fighting isn't going to pull any punches. Why should your instrutor if you are paying him to make you into a fighter? Get you nose broken, get punched in the abs till they are rock hard, know what it feels like to get kicked in the legs. Know this pain like your best friend so when you do get into a fight you are more prepared than someone who does endless hours of line work or taps when they get tired.

I agree. Serious muay thai training is unparalleled on the level of sheer punishment and conditioning. Other than that whole dumbbell thing, I think your instructor is doing exactly what he should be doing. Think about it this way...if you can tough it through this then everything else you do in your MA career will be easy in comparison. But that still doesn't mean you should be willing to take serious abuse that will hurt you in the long run. I think that you are smart enough to know the difference between hard conditioning and abuse. The minute he starts rolling dumbbells on your shin on a regular basis or breaking your ribs with full power kicks, I'd say that would be the time to leave. But aside from the dumbbell thing, everything else he has done up to this point sounds fine to me.

BTW, did he give you a timeline as to when he expects you to fight amateur for him? Or is he just training you in the basics at this point?

My trainer had told me that I have the basics down, which is the kicking and the boxing, but that I have to learn the most important aspect of Muay Thai. Heart. He stressed this type of training the most, and wants me to have really strong cardio. He is also a certified personal trainer I believe and his specialty is nutrition and cardio.

This summer he wants me to meet some of the promoters and train at another gym to learn clinch and knee and elbow work more extensively. He also wanted me to have more sparring partners.

I am more worried about school, and training being in conflict with each other. Not to mention money...I just hope it all works out because next year is my final year in high school. I have to worry about the damn SATs and getting into a good university as well.

Unless you're planning to be a pro fighter, there shouldn't be a conflict.

I was thinking more in terms of being an amateur, maybe a handful of fights, being a pro would be beyond my wildest dreams!

However I want to train as much as I can.

Even if you could be a pro there ain't no money in Muay Thai. It's only worth going pro in something like that if you don't have any other options.

Yella's main ambition is to be perceived as a tough guy. He is under the impression he will lose his cherry more rapidly this way. Ah, to be 14 again...

                              Yella tiger,
I think the instructor is testing you.
If he keeps doing the dumbell thing, he is a nuttcase.
But like he said the bag and pads are the inly things you need.

Most people don't understand that trainers want the best for you.
i think he is just testing you, and trying to get you ready for competition.

Hard work like that gets you ready.

I train some people on in the vacation's
this i what they go throu every other day.
1 hour of running in the park
                              30 min of pads drill's
                              15 mins of bag work
3 ground and pound drill's (i try to take them down and pound the from mount with 12 oz gloves) untill they tap out.
                              sparring:
                              2 round's of strait boxing
2 round's of boxing vs kicking (1 round i box other rounds the other boxes
2 rounds of clinching with out knees
                              2rounds of clinching with knees
                              2 rounds of kickboxing
                              2 rounds of thaiboxing
