  • street bjj and takedowns.

i dont think bjj wold be that useful in a parking lot or asphalt, cuase if you can get a takedown your slammin someone into concrete. they are gone, dazed, or so freaking crazy ass strong you wnot be able to bea them anyways lol.likewise if thye take you down, even with the guard you just got slammed into concrete...so you have a slight advantage but i think we give poeple more credit then we shold.

I'm not saying its stupid. Why don't you re-write it so your point is easier to understand.

not the same.bjjer are so used to takedowns that they have a tendancy to land a LOT easier if they get taken down. the non bjjer will just land on his head or where ever they put him. you probably wont luck into a great takedown on a bjjer anymore than you could get a dunk angainst a good basketball player unless youre good yourself ..the octagon in no holds barred competitions isnt that padded..and grapplers work out fine .ok so the grappler will scrape his knees but the street fighter will be heading to the hospital..

basically my point was takedowns can easily end a streetfight. but theres alot of people out there with wrestling experience, those are the only people you gotta worry about with bjj. also, work on takedawns, cause you dont wanna get punched in the back of the neck on a shot. just my thoughts, i dont really know much thoguh

I think you have more than just wrestlers to worry about.
I don't know.. I haven't gotten into a fight since 8th grade? What are you guys doing that you're fighting all the time?

                Ahhhhh....

But the takedown of a good BJJ man will most likely end with him in one of two places: mount or crossmount. The guard is only for people like me who can't roll worth a $hit.

Ok first of all, Brazilian jiu-jitsu like anything else, is simply a set of concepts that use certain technqiues in certain situations to obtain a specific task.

Ok now that we have that settled, BJJ people don't DO things in self defense situations that they might do in NHB fights. I don't understand why people don't know this. It's basic common sense (which I'm now wondering why it's called common).

People are stone cold stupid when it comes to "Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu" and it's self-defense value. Do you honestly think that a BJJ guy is just going to lie there on the ground (if he has the guard) and wait for his opponent to make a mistake?

Get REAL! The first thing he'd likely do is dig his thumbs in the guys eyes. I would! After that, maybe he'd sweep him. All I know is I'd be fighting all out! Plus I'd have position on him!

Plus, most of the smart fighters realize you use the guard only in emergencies.

This kind of thread is simply trolling.

Wake up people. Get smarter about these things. It isn't about style on the street, it's about surviving! A style never did anything for me! I have to win (or survive) the goddamn fight--not some style.

                  Good (smart) training to you!

Ok, you're dumb, not trolling. j/k

Sorry if I mistook your post. I too agree that a good takedown can win a fight, especially if it's on concrete.

Greco throws are pretty good for that, providing you don't land underneath your opponent. The variation we do puts the guy down with you coming down on top of him. That'll certainly leave a mark!

                      Good training!

It would be especially effective if the slam were to occur on a reef, or maybe by some "severe tire damage" spikes, or maybe even onto a fire hydrant. Sheesh...You're right. BJJ doesn't have any defenses against such things.
