im new to martial arts but i would love to start doing something possibly muay thai. ive been going gym for like a year now so i got a fair bit of bulk and strength i would just like to start martial arts to get fit and let some anger out. is it hard when you first start off and what can i expect for my first few months?

You can expect to be slow and awkward for the first couple of months as your body adjusts to moving in a new and unexpected way. You may feel frustrated that you're not moving as smoothly or easily as those around you, but remember that they were all just as slow and awkward when they first started.

After a few sessions you can expect to either love it or hate it. If you love it, congratulations - you are now one of us.

After a few months you can expect your skills to level out a bit and you may not feel that you're progressing. This is normal - everybody plateaus from time to time. Ride it out - perseverance is a big part of this thing of ours.

Or if you work with people like me, you'll notice that they have been training for awhile and are still "slow and awkward" in a number of different areas.

A young woman just started a similar thread in the Thaiboxing forum...you should check out the advice for her there.

        Best of luck.

If you want to get out some anger, Muay Thai will help you achieve that. But keep your control.
