I was wondering. How many have wrestled with someone who was bigger and stronger than you,had good wrestling skills, but just didnt know submissions? How long did it take you to submit them and what did they do wrong?
I got to wrestle with two very strong high school varsity guys who I could not sweep or get position on.I had to take subs from the bottom on both of them. One outweighed me by about 20 lbs and the other about 40 lbs.The lighter one took me under two minutes and the bigger guy six minutes.I know that these guys would be great if they were trained. And to be honest, probably be beating me in no time if they did.
The one thing that was consistent was that they stayed low and never got high enough for me to get them off balance for any kind of a sweep.Pretty much couldnt pass, stayed in the guard and were leaving their arms out. They were strong enough that I didnt want to try for an armbar while they were still fresh.I was afraid of getting stacked and loosing what position I was keeping with the spider guard. So,I pulled and tugged on their arms for awhile before I would go for the armbar.Neither tried to pass. They were intent on going straight forward and grabbing my wrists. So I was just wipeing the arms across and basicaly doing sticky finger gung fu on my back.At least thats what I was thinking at the time.I know that I'm out of shape from not training for 9 months, but is this a poor performance on my part?
Is it just me?Or does that sound like I really need to get back in the gym?Is a high school wrestler on average going to be difficult?

dan, how did you like the cd?

    ot,
yes you need to get back to the gym
wrestlers and judoka's will allways be hard to sweep because they stey low (the habit comes from turtleling)
I hardly ever get sweeped while in guard, only when i try to pass.
also when take you down, don't go the guard at once, try to get a better position.

Aaron,I still havent got that cd yet.The u.s. mail system is not all that wonderful. They have shredded two of my house payments and loose mail all the time. But,you never know.It may find it's way here by December.

The girl who brings the mail up from the bottom of the mountain had an accident. Her horse stepped in a gopher hole and came up lame. So,now were not sure when we we will get mail again.

Well Ive never sparred with a real wrestler, but, there was this time long long ago....... I have an acquantaince who is a brawler type and watches ufcs occasionally. He is a little younger, much faster, much stronger, much tougher all around. He is a bit crazy actually, gets in trouble sometimes. Hes a small guy about 5'9 and 165lbs. but I guess has good genetics, no body fat, just lean muscle. A few years back before I really new anything I showed him an achilles cause he liked footlocks(he really liked Shamrock). About a year ago we were watching a ufc and getting excited and he was saying how he would do this and that and I was like you dont understand! Well next thing I know we were in the living room floor sparring to my girlfriends dismay. I was showing him how to armbar correctly(well more correctly than how he was trying) and he picked me up and slammed my head on the linoleum in the kitchen! OK, I thought!(Im 6' 148lbs) I got in side mount and was trying to get tight but no luck, he can bench twice my weight and so I could not get close to him. He was flailing his legs up trying to head scissor me, but I finally got a secure hold, took mount and slowly worked a forarm choke. We started again and I keylocked him. Next, I tried demonstrating a keylock but to my dismay, even though I was in great position(i finish with this hold regularly), I could not budge it! He tapped after a couple minutes anyways cause he could not get out of the position. Round three. Im working guard and to my surprise he sits back into an achilles! I roll with him ala Royce\Shamrock, but he will not give it up. I should have slapped him a few times as a payback for earlier but I was scared it might anger him. He gets my shirt over my head and with brute force knocks me back down and starts to seriosly put on that achilles I showed him years ago! From then on it was in slow motion! I was like:OH SHIT THIS CANT HAPPEN!!$#&!. Luckily for me he threw a leg up near my armpit! I instantly heel hooked him and he screamed and let go!!! WHEW! I was totally exhausted! I awoke with bruises, scratches, rug burn, scabs, sore muscles, you name it! I was also limping, it took me about 10 days to recover! That experience alone has gotten me to train harder and be a little more prepared for the unexpected! I found out he had been wrestling his friends occasionaly and would always catch them with that foot lock. It was really the only technique he knew and he almost caught me with it!

              Spider Guard?

I haven't seen or heard of this particular move before (as I do not train bjj). Could you please explain it to me (please use small words and type slowly... )

              Thanks,

              SZ

The very first online technique on THIS site is a heelhook.

LOL,no. Just had another surgery and took time off to heal. But,I sure can tell how slow my reactions are and how much I need to get back in some kind of shape. My timing is way off and I miss opportunities because I am having to think too much. Not that I was all that good before, just that I can tell I have regressed.
