  • Video Reviews... Any interest?

    Guys,

I have the opportunity to view just about every series that is advertised in BB Mag, as well as most other instructional videos. I've done a couple of reviews for people who have e-mailed me, but I could do reviews of "new stuff" if there is any interest. I'm not affiliated w/anyone, nor am I sent free videos from the companies involved. Just my straight opinion, as well as the material covered. Who knows, it might save you a couple of bucks.

I'm definitely interested in reviews. Especially Sperry's Master Series I and II.

I understand its for sport BJJ but, i can't afford to buy both this series and his submission grappling. Does the sport BJJ set give you enough confidence in NON gi grappling so that you wouldn't be totally lost with what to do if there was no gi to grab?

What I'm saying is I do sport BJJ 80% of the time and wonder if it has enough no gi submissions etc that will transfer over to No gi grappling if i need it for at least part of my practicing.

Also the reviews I've read don't talk enough if his setups precede all moves? Does he give a complete system of fighting that can be trained in a cohesive manner, or are the techniques more standalone?

    thanks

No problem, I can post it here so I don't get duplicate questions.

If you've ever seen any of Mario Sperry's series, you know he teaches a nice progression, kind of a complete system/strategy. The funny thing is, they are different from sport to sport (gi, valetudo, submission wrestling) I think you can take about any bjj, and apply it to no-gi. However, you will be much better off to specialize. To answer your question, his strategy in the submission grappling series is different than in his Master series. They SG really concentrates on not getting double legged or guillotened. The MS has a FANTASTIC (and pretty unique) emphasis on grip and how to get a better grip. His VT series is different still, but excellent.

You can't go wrong getting ANY of these series. If you are doing 80% sport, i'd go with the MS.

          Master Series

Tell me more about the master series for Sport BJJ. Do all the moves flow together? In other words is it all integrated or do you learn bits and pieces of the puzzle? Also does he assume your opponent will always be ready with a counter (using BJJ) move and then give me additional options? I used to own the vale tudo series but got rid of them because I found we rarely had the opportunity to hit during class. Besides I'm interested in technique , not just bloodying someone. My interest in BJJ is more chess related than as a fighting system or physical activity. Do all his movements assume a smart grappler is your opponent, and is ready with counters to ALL your moves?

Also do you have Master I and II for sale? I have some tape sets myself (all originals) that I may consider selling, or swapping if you are interested. These sets were all purchased as originals -- no piracy here.

Please do respond on my questions.. Thanks
