I was watching some kind of pre show for the latest UFC bout. 109. It was featuring Mike Swick of SJ Ca. I think it was on VS network, or Spike, not sure but it was on cable TV. There was a certain section where Mike Swick was being interviewed and he called himself "A Celebrity". I could not help but laugh at a comment like that. I have trained at AKA of San Jose, and never once did I consider anyone of the fighters there "a celebrity". If anything these are the amatuers of MMA. I think it is a great atmosphere for training and working out, but stars of MMA they are not.
One of biggest pet peeves with UFC is that they try to build up fighters repuations by setting up easy fights to work thier way up. Much like Diego Sanchez, whom half of his opponents arent even fighting in the UFC.
There was no way I was going to pay for this card, knowing well ahead each fight was going to go exactly as favored.
Maybe Swick should've spent more time trainin and preparing for ground game, then doing interviews and "celebrity" things.
I think the UFC and all MMA fighters are clearly divided by class, of Superstars and Spacefillers. I myself have never entered any position and competition to just try win a match. If there was never championship or title on the line, I would have never tried. Almost like WWF actors. There are people who will never get the contracts or the namesake but continue to do it for the paycheck. Is that a way to live by? Or am I just blowing smoke?
