Congratulations on your purple belt. I just rolled with Marco yesterday. As usual, he kicked my butt. He knew I ate too close to training time, so his first submission was to just put his knee deep into my belly until I almost pucked on him. Marco is in great shape and is looking to fight soon. Looks like Pedro won't get his rematch with Couture - Couture doesn't want to fight him again. I suppose he enjoys walking too much! Looks like Couture will fight Josh Barnett and their looking to get Kerr to fight Pedro in October or November timeframe.

Babalu, Pedro and Roberto all stayed at my place the past few days so they could train at the studio in Laguna prior to their fights in Japan. Babalu is definitely ready for his fight!

Damn those guys can put food down!

Training in Italy

Underdog,
How would you rate the quality of training in the various submission schools in italy? Are there some quality instructors?
I have taught a couple of seminars in Rome but of course I haven't seen all the different schools. I will be going there again this fall for vacation and seminars.

Hey Hitch! how are you? I was waiting for your response! If you have occasion to talk with Marco, please tell him that Davide Ferretti is doing an AWESOME job here in Italy, I can't stand waiting for the coming of Marco Here! (he's scheduled in the winter to come!). Yeah! You damn lucky one, Renato Sobral had stayed in your home? Poor fridge....he he...

As for MMA in italy there are only three good schools here:Ruas Vale Tudo of course; Vacirca Jiu Jitsu (held by two switzerlands, blackbelts, but I don't know under who...shady guys, but good)
and gracie jiu jiutsu under Robin Gracie.

Now "free fighting" in en vogue here, so there are a large number of improvised blackbelts in BJJ and NHB, but the main schools are the ones mentioned.

Sorry to bug you again but I like to train when I'm on vacation. I will be in Florence for a month but will be taking trains around to the other cities. Is there a good submission school in Florence? Where are the 3 schools you mention, Gracie?

Near Florence (damned expensive city, pal!) you can find a school I forgot to mention: the RAGE SUBMISSION TEAM; it's held by a purple belt under Robin Gracie:

Other than that, the other gracie school is in Milan, but I don't know their address, our school is located in Ciampino, near Rome, you can reach us by train in a short while from florence, for info contact my instructor at: davideferretti.inwind.it

In Rome is located also the vacirca jiu jitsu school; they had a website, I will check and post later.

We will gather at our academy the next 30 september, if you will be in Italy I would gladly roll with you!

I will check out these schools for sure. I will be there a whole month, so I have to train. I will go to Milan and maybe Rome also.
The girls in Italy seem a little difficult to me, I have been there several times. The culture is so much different than the States. It's much easier here. Don't worry though I will put forward my best effort. I know Florence is expensive but some of my costs are covered by work.

Right now I'm busy like hell, I just completed the bronze course (millenium) in pratical pistol shooting. Right now I'm qualified to compete in international tournaments. I will try for a slot in the Italian competition squad next year (VERY, VERY,VERY,VERY hard task....). You know, I'm in love with HNB, but I would die for I.P.S.C.; I consider it my first love....
