Tae Kwon Do, my misspent youth...

Back when I was a teen (B.Lee was very en vogue at the time in Italy), I was heavily into TKD.

One time a fellow student decided to brawl outside a bar in my town, he did exchange words with another guy (not really a brawler, a pretty much serious teenager, sorta humble, mind you) and they arranged a "martial arts duel" in a park nearby.

The humble guy arrived on a small bike and my friend went there with jeans and a "Dobok" (Gi uniform) jacket, complete with a proudly owned yellow belt....

To say that the biker was dumbfounded it's the understatemente of the year...

So Golden-kimono-Tkd guy assumed the best stance he could and did a picture-perfect jumping front kick.

The humble guy caught the foot in his hands and steered it as you would with a car steering wheel.

Net result: bad rep for TKD, one broken ankle, lot of laughs and a mumbling underdog questioning by himself the real efficency of flying kicks...

            Puh-lease

So...fighting drunks is "commendable"? The guy was inebriated and most likely out of shape. For TKD boy to think he is now a legit "warrior" because he threw a flurry of kicks that his opponent could walk away from...you see how silly it all sounds?

If you're gonna fight, at least fight a worthy opponent, for a worthy cause. If you have time to get into a ready stance, then you have time to check your ego, and walk away. Personally, I don't train to "fight" drunks. Where's the glory in that.

            Musashi would be dismayed.

4 Ranges! How have you been? Haven't seen you around, but then again I haven't frequented the JKD forum lately.

                YeLLa TiGeR,
the proud yellow belt in the previous story shows the depth of study that he had given to the art. I wouldn't feel too embarrassed since you clearly have more of an understanding then he did. But I admit things like that make you slap the top of your head with your hand.

                  Hey Ryu!

                  Ryu:

I haven't been posting here for a while either. Been busy training and competing. I competed in a kung-fu tournament, but didn't place. Our match had an interesting size difference (he outweighed me by about 30lbs. I think). Nevertheless, I brought the fight to him, nailing him with quite a few good thai kicks. Currently preparing for my next test in PFS/JKD.

                  How've you been?

I've been well. I am into my studies more than usual, and am planning on getting a BD in Philo in about a year and a half hopefully

I am no longer in any BJJ school or anything, and have just been working out solo, and occasionally with some close friends, and even my sis who also knows submission

But other than that, I'm mostly studying these days.
Congrats on your tournament competition. Lately I've been playing with the idea of competing in judo if I get back to Japan. Either that or just coming up with my own little ground and pound/JKD/BJJ/Street style and calling myself cool
Regardless, I have lots of plans to think about.

Take care, and good luck with your instructorships!
                    Have you met Voo yet?
