What are your thoughts on this?
I agree with most of it.

    BAD AMERICAN
    by Ted Nugent

I like big trucks, big boats, big houses, and naturally, pretty women.
I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some midlevel governmental functionary
with a bad comb-over who wants to give it away to crack addicts squirting out babies.
I don't care about appearing compassionate. I think playing with toy guns doesn't make you a killer - I
believe ignoring your kids and giving them Prozac might.
I think I'm doing better than the homeless.
I don't think being a minority makes you noble or victimized. I have the right not to be tolerant of others
because they are different, weird or make me mad. This is my life to live, and not necessarily up to others
    expectations.
I know what SEX is and there are not varying degrees of it.
I don't celebrate Kwanzaa. But if you want to that's fine; just don't act like everyone else should have to.
I believe that if you are selling me a Dairy Queen shake, a pack of cigarettes, or hotel room you do it in
English. As of matter of fact, if you are an American citizen, you should speak English. My uncles and
forefathers shouldn't have had to die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come
disrespect ours, and make us bend to your will. Get over it!
I think the cops have every right to shoot your sorry butt if you're running from them after they tell you to
stop. If you can't understand word 'freeze' or 'stop' in English, see the previous line.
I don't use the excuse "it's for the children" as a shield for unpopular opinions or actions.
I know how to count votes and I feel much safer letting a machine with no political affiliation do a recount when
    needed.
I know what the definition of lying is, and it isn't based on the word "is"-ever.
I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you qualify for any special loan programs, gov't
sponsored bank loans, etc., so you can open a hotel, 7-Eleven, trinket shop, or anything else, while the
indigenous peoples can't get past a high school education because they can't afford it.
I didn't take the initiative in inventing the Internet.
I thought the Taco Bell dog was funny.
I want them to bring back safe and sane fireworks.
I believe no one ever died because of something Ozzy Osbourne, Ice-T or Marilyn Manson sang, but that
doesn't mean I want to listen to that crap from someone else's car when I'm stopped at a red light. But I
    respect your right to.
I think that being a student doesn't give you any more enlightenment than working at Blockbuster or Jack In
    The Box.
I don't want to eat or drink anything with the words light, lite or fat-free on the package.
Our soldiers did not go to some foreign country and risk their lives in vain and defend our Constitution so that
decades later you can tell me it's a living document ever changing and is open to interpretation. The guys
who wrote it were light years ahead of anyone today, and they meant what they said-now leave the
document alone, or there's going to be trouble.
    I don't hate the rich.
    I help the poor.
    I know wrestling is fake.
I've never owned, or was a slave, and a large percentage of our forefathers weren't wealthy enough to own
one either. So, please stop blaming me because some prior white people were idiots-and remember,
tons of white, Indian, Chinese, and other races have been enslaved too. It was wrong for every one of
    them.
I believe a self-righteous liberal with a cause is more dangerous than a Hell's Angel with an attitude.
I want to know exactly which church is it where the "Reverend" Jessie Jackson preaches; and, what exactly
    is his job function.
I own a gun, you can own a gun, and any red blooded American should be allowed to own a gun, but if you
use it in a crime, then you will serve the time.
I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it makes you
mad, then you invent the next operating system that's better and put your name on the building.
Ask your buddy that invented the Internet to help you.
I don't believe in hate crime legislation. Even suggesting it makes me mad.
You're telling me that someone who is a minority, gay, disabled, another nationality, or otherwise different
from the mainstream of this country has more value as a human being that I do as a white male. If someone
kills anyone, I'd say that it's a hate crime. We don't need more laws! Let's enforce the ones we already
    have.
I think turkey bacon, turkey beef, turkey fake anything sucks. I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a
child-it takes a parent with the (guts) to stand up to the kid and spank his butt and say "NO!" when it's
    necessary to do so.
I'll admit that the only movie that ever made me cry was Ole Yeller.
I didn't realize Dr. Seuss was a genius until I had a kid.
I will not be frowned upon or be looked down upon or be made to keep silent because I have these
    beliefs and opinions.
I thought this country allowed me that right.
I will not conform or compromise just to keep from hurting somebody's feelings.
I'm neither angry nor disenfranchised, no matter how desperately the mainstream media would like the world
    to believe otherwise.
Yes, I guess by some people's definition, I may be a bad American.
    But that's tough!

I actually agree with very little of what he says.

            I am really interested.
I really want to see why someone who thinks a different way than me thinks that way.All the discussions on these subjects usually resort in silly name calling instead of discussing the issue at hand.

So what do ya think you "bleeding heart"liberal?

I think everything is relative to a person's "world view". I was brought up differently than Mr. Nugent, so I have a different set of values and a somewhat contrary attitude toward other people in this country.

                - I believe the money I earn belongs to me. Every April, I come to resent the fact that I have to pay more money out of my pocket, and yes I DO bitch and complain about this annual ritual. What I resent the most is that my tax dollars is currently invested in the rich, while programs like Family Planning and Legal Aid are under constant financial scrutiny. That's what the voting booth is for.....sure my voice is small in that venue, but at least it's heard.

                - I know I'm going to step on some toes on this one....but I believe to be successful in the United States, it's preferable to speak English......but freedom of speech should never require it to be mandatory to accomodate Mr. Nugent and like-minded individuals. The owner of the 7-Eleven is speaking Spanish....and you don't like it......you take your little non-tolerant butt to a different All-American convenience store where a pimply-faced, teenaged, irratated, apathetic, English-speaking clerk can give you your cigarettes......rather than imposing your values on others.

                - I know many of my fellow Americans put our founding fathers on a pedestal, but Mr. Nugent is either ignorant or apathetic of the fact that Washington and Jefferson owned slaves (red-headed ones in Jefferson's case). Sure, it was the norm of the time for wealthy men.....hell, Oskar Schindler was a member of the Nazi party.....it's not necessarily significant to their contributions to humanity, but the fact still remains.

                - Mr. Nugent should check a part of the Constitution called the "Elastic Clause". Nugent suggests that our founding fathers wrote it with little intention of ever changing its application. That couldn't be further from the truth. The writers of the Constitution placed the Elastic Clause within their document, knowing that their current interpretation of the law couldn't possibly foresee all the problems that may arise in America's future. This clase states that the Constitution may be changed as necessary to apply to future needs of the law. Nugent was right in the sense, that our founding father were light years ahead of their time.....that's why they made their materpiece of governmental law alterable.

There's more that bothers me about this commentary (I'm at work right now), but I respect Nugent's right to express his beliefs. It's quite common these days to label people like myself "liberals"......and I suppose that's perfectly fine. I'll wear that tag if it makes "conservatives" happy.

                    Lacrymosa-
I have no problem with people who come to our country & are willing to work for what they get.I believe you should try to learn English but these things do take time.

                    Thank you for your comments!
BTW-The "bleeding heart"liberal commment was just a joke.

I knew you were kidding with the "Liberal" thing......that's the whole reason why I answered the question.

I'm a believer in the fact that in order to be successful in this country, it's imperitive to learn to speak English. From a financial standpoint it's common sense, but eveyone has their own decisions to make.

I spent some time in Arizona, where a hot topic of debate was the fact that some road signs appearing on freeways were in Spanish. I didn't see where this was contraversial, but apparently, a large republican portion of the community was adamantly against this. Nevermind that Spanish speaking citizens have spent generations of tax money on road signs in English....let alone the freeways themselves.

                      Any opinions?

i think the problem with poor Ted is that he hasn't really been out much except for playing lots of really terrible rock and roll concerts. Ted's philosophy is so grotesque and well...trailer-park...the old boy conjures up scenes of swamps and mist and slack toothed in-breeding. The trick with most far left or far right diatribe is to sound perfectly reasonable for a few sentences, then throw in something completely unhinged and hope that no-one notices: "The sky is blue, roses are red, kill the rich."
Ted likes to mention freedom a lot, but he's only talking about his own and he has no sense of other people having any opinion that might differ from his. The whole point of America is that everything changes and, within reason, everyone gets to do what they want provided it doesn't hinder others' freedom. Ted likes to make a big noise when he dives in; he feels this is the only way he can get people to listen again, now that the only people who listen to his stuff are the Aryan Brotherhood in jail. I think what I'm struggling to say here is that it's a big, diverse, free country, only poor Ted hasn't quite caught on to that idea yet.

I don't necessarily disagree with all his points, but all in all I think its a bunch of whiny self indulgent crap. He talks a lot about freedom, but the only ones he seems ready to respect are his own (with just barely enough empty "I'll respect your freedom too" statements to mask his intolerance and justify his contempt). Basically, he seems to see himself as a victim just because not everyone agrees with him and that modern American society cannot cater solely to his freedom. And he seems to resent this because in his mind, he is somehow more American than all the other kinds of people in this country. Some people just can't seem to grasp the fact that the problem with the concept of freedom is that when everyone has it, they'll inevitably step on each other's toes once in awhile. You have to appreciate the need for compromise here and there. People like him exaggerate the extent to which they are being marginalized. And I'm not just talking about conservative middle class white Americans...a lot of blacks, minorities and liberal thinkers are guilty of the same thing. I'm not a strong liberal, nor am I an extreme right winger. I'd guess I'm somewhere in the middle and to be quite honest, people who stray far towards either extreme are both quite annoying to me.
