the ARS DIMICANDI is an italian organization that study the ancient roman fighting tradition: grappling, pancratium and gladiatura (weapon fighting as gladiators).
i saw theirs show in a town near mine 2 month ago in VILLA DEL FORO: an ancient roman villa and archeological site, here for 3 days they show a good example of ancient roman world.
This year they made:
here they built a little roman castrum
typical roman dishes (with a show about the emperor Nerone and his group)
the "biga" race (not like the movie Ben Hur, but in any case very good and well done)
a gladiators tournement (good the making of weapons and clothes)
a fight between roman soldiers and a group of "gallicus barbari" (ancient french barbarian):very well done by a tchec. group (very fast and technical the fights)
in italy they collaborate with some archeological institute and their work seems to be well done considering history and roman culture.
Filippo had aswered the quuestion better than me; sincerely I didn't know the guys you mentioned.
As for training, sure; the next 30-31 september, we Ruas vale tudo students will gather near rome to train; obviously this would be more easily done than coming at my home; remember, I live in a island and your friend would have to fly to me, and flying tickets in italy aren't cheap for sure (how about 300 us dollars for 300miles flying?)
however for futher info: email underdog 672000 yahoo.it
BTW, your friend is getting married with an Italian or he will be here for honeymoon? just curious...he he.
