How long have you been training in both Gi and No-Gi?

What would you say is your strengths?

    Weaknesses?

Answer these and then some people can give you advice.

          About the approach...

First, good deal that you'll be getting your feet wet! I hope you accomplish what you set out to do...and LEARN from it.

Personally, when tournament day comes, I'm dead set in just having fun and meeting people. Whatever happens will happen. No worries.

I've found that this approach, regardless of 1st or 100th tournament, helps keep me relaxed. When you are relaxed, you can think and better see/feel with your "mat vision." Envision yourself winning, but think "have fun."

One week out from the day, go as light as possible. Work on gaining the initiative (heavy), escapes, positional control, and the basics (keeps you sharp).

Play the points, but get the tap.

          Peace

It doesnt matter how good you are if your not in shape. I really hope you are running 5days a week. I have beaten more talented fighters than me just because I was in better shape. That holds true for all combat sports. You do not want to lose to someone thats not as good you just because you were to lazy to do your roadwork.
