Just to let those know who haven't had the times to research. The violent sect of Muslims, the shi' ites only constitute 10 percent of the entire faith. This percentage is reflected in many Arab countries. However it's reversed in Iraq and Iran where they contitute 90% of the people. They're interpretation of the Koran is literal and as a result the heavy emphasis on jihad (holy war). They say Ben Ladden is a "holy" man.

Qkfx,
Now I'm going to call bullsh!t on you. Yes, Iraq and Iran are majority Shi'ite. But they are no where near 90% of the population in those countries. Not to mention that the rulers of Iraq are relatively secular. Iraq used to be our ally and is one of the more liberal countries in the Arab world when it comes to religion. Iran is no friend of Afghanistan or the Taliban. Their beef goes back a long way and is partly because of religious differences (the Taliban are Sunni). If anyting the Shi'ite are less likely to interpret the Koran literally. One of the main problems between Shiah and Sunni is the fact that Shi'ites allow reinterpretation by their religious leaders and the Sunni don't (at least in theory).Last edited by E1am; 09-17-2001, 02:40 PM.
