  • question about terminology

throughout this board i see lots of terms such as clinching, grappling, trapping, etc. However, i am unfamiliar with what these words mean, exactly. Can anyone point me towards a faq that has the definitions of these meanings, or enlighten me directly as to what they mean? thank you

    Hi,

Clinching - to hold an opponent at close quarters with one or both arms

Grappling - typically used as a term similar to wrestling and includes chokes, armbars and other submissions.

Trapping - pinning an opponents arms so you can strike or attack.

    Hope that helps,

    Tim

ok, so clinching would be like grabbing by the shirt eck collar of your opponent with one hand and punch with the other? As for trapping, I think you lost me there can you give me an example?

        Hi,

A simple example would be this:

Your opponent has his hands up in front of his face in a boxing guard. Slap his hand out of the way so you can punch him in the face.

Trapping utilizes both slapping and grabbing the arms to setup strikes or attacks.
