  • sanshou training - help!

Looking to go from 'recreational' kickboxing (sparring but not too competitive) to taking part in an amateur sanshou tournament next summer.
Reason? Want to do it before I turn 30, so I can say I've done it before I get too old.
What I need is as much advice as possible in building a training schedule - roadwork, strength, diet, drills - the whole caboodle, so I can get into fighting shape. All advice very welcome - I've obviously visited sanshou.com & .org, and there both good but I really need some specifics so if something has worked for you please let me know. All help very gratefully received!

Work your throws, as in NHB, grappling dominates.

I'd say you should work on some basic strikes. Various punches, low kicks and knees perhaps. Yes and grappling is important too, in San Shou.

              check out

under the training schedule section. A detailed account of a pro fighter's regimen.

oh yeah- and work on your throws.

Do a lot of people go over to Thailand to train? I went to the site and its seems they are very friendly and welcome foreigners (probably because we got all the mONEY!) j/k

                Do people there speak English???

I figure people take a month out of the year from their jobs or whatever to visit these camps. I dunno anyone have any experience in this??????

Heres a few things to apply.

                  Road work: 45min
                  Dips: 20-30 reps 3 sets
Chin ups: 20-30 reps 3 sets
                  Squats: 20-30 reps 2 sets
                  Deadlifts: 15-20 reps 2 sets

DIET: Plenty of fruit, 70% of your diet should be fruit. No junk or processed foods.

AND: Work on alot of techniques. Striking, Grappling and mental techniques. Check some of the Training forums for more.

                      No

Heres the story, one day actually the first day I signed uo here I was searching for Bruce Lee stuff when I came across http://www.jkd.com.hk/Eng and noticed it had free email. I already had a hotmail account and was looking for MA newsletters.

Then I saw that you get an actual free email account. So I cancelled my previous one and got one there. Then somehow I came across this site and signed up.

So no I have never been to Hong Kong, infact Ive never left Australia.
