Shamrock/Royce Superfight

So I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and paroused the martial arts section. I came across a book about Ken Shamrock that told his life story and some basic techniques. One thing I found interesting was the part about the Superfight versus Royce. The book praised Shamrock and painted him as a hero. When I watched the Superfight with one of my friends (who knows NOTHING about MA), my friend commented that he had much more respect for the Royce since he was smaller and left the ring very respectfully, whereas Shamrock paraded around like he had won the match. Your thoughts?

Of all the Gracie Brothers, I believe that Royce is known throughout the family as the gentleman out of the bunch.

I was training with Royce at the time of the inception of the UFC and all of the ones he competed in.

There are many stories I've shared here about him since I was able to talk to him after his matches and get a first hand earfull of what went on before during and after the matches.

If you watch UFC 1, after Shamrock taps out, the referee didn't see the tap and so Shamrock tries to keep going and you see Royce get up into Ken's ear and tell him something. Royce told me and well, it was to the effect of letting him know that he indeed did tap and have some sportsmanship.

Ken exposed BJJ as a gimmick. He beat Lenninger the same way, showing both Judokas to be powerless in a real fight.

Hey, let's not forget Shamrock fought in Japan many times before the UFC and submission was part of his game. Shamrock outweighed Royce by 40 lbs and still got tapped. This just goes to show BJJ has the best submissions bar none. But that's not to say BJJ alone is enough.

when you factor in the size and the first victory went to royce in a dominating fashion. ken's performance in the rematch was not that impressive

All Shamrock did was hide from Royce the whole match. Ken literally hid his head and never tried one thing. Royce was active throughout the whole fight both striking and going for submissions. You could tell that after the match Shamrock was very excited that he survived Royce, showing that he knew he did not have a chance in hell of beating Royce. The one strike Ken did land was given to him by the Ref when they forced the fighters back to their feet. 40lbs....red speedos.....getting worked in less than 2 minutes in the first match..and all he can do is stall in the 2nd match...very disappointing for Shamrock. Ken is overrated for someone who has never won a single elimination UFC. Considering Royce's lack of success in his last match, Wallid choking him out, and the general consensus that he is not the unbeatable fighter he was once thought to be...this goes to further show Shamrock is way overrated.
