  • Jiu Jitsu in Portland?

    Hi guys,
I am new to the forum and I was wondering if there is anywhere decent to learn Jiu Jitsu in the Portland Oregon area?

    Thanks!

I'd suggest checking bjj.org first and asking people what they think of the places available there. There are some people on here that will know.

Straight Blast Gym has the best BJJ program in Portland. Matt Thorton is a Machado Brown Belt. Otherwise there is several so called grappling schools and a Gracie Association in Hillsboro.

check the gracie academy website there is a listing on their somewhere. they have a good amount of blues and i think one purple. Really nice guys just to far out to drive.
I know that Caique used to come up once a year to do seminars and Royce came up once I think, but im not sure who is going to come up and give seminars now, probably Ryron or Rener.

Northwest Fighting Arts offers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Portland Or. The head instructor is black belt certified under Rigan Machado. I very much enjoy training here. There is a skilled group of people to roll with and it's low on the attitude. As always though you should check out your options. There are a few good BJJ places in Portland. Try them out and find the one that suits you best. If you are new to Jiu Jitsu you should be asking yourself, "Am I comfortable here?" "Is the instructor knowledgable; are they explaining techniques well?" "Is the training here going to help me reach my goal (fitness, self defense, having fun, etc)?" If all the answers are yes then you've found a good fit.
