      A good trick.

A good trick to get rid of lovehandles is to stop eating ice cream and do some twisting stomach crunches.

        hey hey hey-

sorry about being away for so long... i don't have a computer at home because i am afraid of getting sucked in. so i only respond from my machine at work when i find the time.

The book that got me started on developing a program that works for me is 'The Ultimate Lifetime Diet' by Gary Null. I'm not saying this is the end all and be all. I think most approaches will work as long as you stick to them. what i liked about this book was that it wasn't a diet, or a gimmick, or a plan. It was really about lifestyle. about not eating dead foods, getting nutrients naturally, and reducing the level of toxins in your body, among a long list of other things.

It's a great reference point to start from. And just like in Jeet Kune Do, i took what was useful for me and discarded the rest. There is a lot of good stuff in that book. I found it useful in finding out which foods i am slightly allergic to. Although they wouldn't make me break out in hives, they would cause my insulin levels to peak while their in my system and therefore make it nearly impossible for me to lose the last five pounds of fat. When i cut out those foods...hello abs. Mind you i was already on a strict diet. so it was easy for me to identify which foods i was allergic to when i got down to my last five pounds i wanted to lose by monitoring my weight. I eventually went to the allergist to comfirm my results, and lo and behold they were accurate. Anyway, that is just one way the book help me, there is a lot of great stuff in it. Since then, I've gotten information from many different sources and continued to adopt what was useful. But it's important to have a starting point, otherwise it's easy to get lost and discouraged.

        oberleutnant-

i'll have to check where i read that, but i found info on it in a number of sources. Mind you i tend to simplify what i read so that i can understand it and somewhat communicate my conclusions. I'll follow up on its details when i find the references (i just forget what books talked about it). But if my memory serves me correctly, my knee-jerk reflex to translate something academic into layman's terms (for my own sake) concluded that it was a function of glycogen/carbohydrates in your system versus that in storage. You sound smarter than i am and may be able to figure out what i read. But i'll tell you this, when i started running in the mornings i noticed an increase in weight loss.

later, gotta get back to work
