        Excuse me?

Scwpankdsld or whatever your name is. Perhaps you should re-read all of JBKenpo's posts on this thread. He clearly alludes to upbringing and society shaping children into criminals.

            None.

I don't believe in the idea of role models.

                Hey Patterson,

Like I said, it's one of those things that I can go back and forth on. I do believe that environment and peers play a role in one's choices as a youth and that in many areas, not just the ghetto, but in the trailer parks of the world as well (of which there are more by the way).

Youths can be easily swayed to do the wrong thing. Is it right no, but there should be some consideration and not a blanket belief that "life's not fair so deal with it" attitude. Does that mean a licence to kill? Absoultely not! This is one of those issues that we will never agree on and will be labeled as either a conservative or a liberal. While all we are (I'm assuming) are just a group of intellegent people sharing some thoughts.

The reason I hesitate to say young people should not be held accountable is because if my family's life were on the line I would not hesitate to end an attacker's life. Of this I am sure. So that is my contradiction that I must acknowledge, but I still remember the pains of growing up "without" and the negative influences that waited in the shadows looking for a moment of weakness in me.

And it's interesting that I feel this way considering that my wife was robbed at gun point by a couple of 15 yr olds about 8 yrs ago. For a long time I felt guilty I wasn't there, but now I think it was probably for the best because someone would have gotten hurt or killed (and I'm not saying it wouldn't have been me, but I would have done my best to make sure it wasn't).

                living with contradictions, jbkenpo

I do not endorse the death penalty. It is inherently flawed.
The Europeans have abolished it . The countries that still have it are pretty backward- Lets get the metric system in place here- too.
Us and Pakistan are the only two countries left in the world not using it. That alone tells ya somethin.

                      nope

The death penalty is immoral. The idea itself is burdened with hypocrisy...

"Killing is a highly immoral act. Therefore, if you do it, we'll kill you."

BTW, my IQ is 165 :P

Tektoniks iq is not that important, its more your ability to think critically and what you do with what you have. Also did you get this score from an online source? Apparently I have better logicistic skills than you because I can see that your point is wrong. If someone locked you up in a cell they made in their house should they not go to jail? This uses the "it is immoral to lock someone up in a cell where they don't want to be, so we will lock you up in a cell where you dont want to be" attitude that you say is hypocritical. How do you respond to this? I think it clearly shows a hole in your reasoning.

Maybe Patty has someone locked up in a cell in HIS house?

Incarceration and execution are on different levels. You can undo incarceration....

I say we institute the Thunderdome method of dispute resolution.

that would be impossible. patterson's 118lb frame would easily be overpowered by any potential hostage.
