Can a clean armbar really end a fight?

I have found that when using pain compliance, people react two ways. Most comply, a few fight much harder when they feel the pain and will escape if you do not make adjustments. It is difficult to break bones, but it is not as hard to pop an elbow in an arm bar situation. If I had friends around me and did not have to worry about the other guy's friends(kicking, stomping, stabbing, etc), I would not hesitate to use an arm bar in a real fight.

You can armbar somebody without leaving mount. A much better option, in my opinion.

maybe I'm a sadist, but I prefer to just pound the ****er til he turns his back to me, then choke him. After all, I dont pick fights. If they bring it to me, **** 'em.

In a street fight that is. Fighting competitively is a different story.

Cracker: you say your an officer of the law? What kind of training to they provide for you guys "in house" for self-defense, apprehension etc...?

"In house" training is pretty basic. Just the normal "what to do when someone pulls away stuff", but their mainly concerned about participants getting hurt during training so they keep it light.
But LEO ground fighting training is available for Po Po who wish to learn it. It's obviously very applicable to the work, so grappling is good to know.

Not to sound like a stud or a BS artist, but ground fighting techniques have literally kept me from being a statistic on several occassions.

Yes, I would imagine so. Keep it light to prevent injury? That doesn't sound very useful when poop hits the fan.

What kind of situation are you responsible for? Meaning, where and when do you patrol, etc?

Your absolutely correct, but their mainly concerned about the liability issue of an officer being hurt during training, (workman's comp type injuries).

                  Closed minds, ya know.

I don't want to be too specific about where I work, so I can express my thoughts on this forum freely, without worrying about saying "too much". I'll just say I work in a major metro area in the Southwest part of the country.

As far as generalities about PO PO work, I'll talk all day long-even if you hate cops. I know it's a common feeling, so I don't get too personally offended. I work night shift, midnight to 8 and I'm just a regular patrol guy.

                    Cracker;
I gotta admit...I had a low opinion of police in general until a few weeks ago. I went and did some tactical weapons training with the LA County sheriffs. It was really good stuff. I was seriously impressed with thier capabilities, knowledge, and techniques.

I know that has absolutely NOTHING to do with armbars but at least shooting is a "martial art"!

Yeah I know what you mean about low opinions. Some cops are real dicks and it makes the rest of us look bad. That's why I dont get all bent out of shape about it. A lot of people have bad experiences.

I was reluctant to even mention it, being a new guy to this board and all. But since I REALLY DO use ground skills fairly regularly(a lot of guys would have you believe they have to fight 10 guys just to go to the store to get milk) on the job, I thought it was relevant.

Even if the guy keeps fighting after an armbar. So what it's only going to be that much easier to finish off a guy with a busted elbow. I had a friend who took sambo and bjj. He told me his sambo instructors stratagy was to break the elbow or sholder first, to make it easier to get the choke.

That being said, I'd chose to keep good position in a fight rather than go for a move that might land me on the bottom.

                          It was not 10 guys

...it was 12! I knew that story would come back to bite me. Hey, they were all carrying chains and tire irons and I think one had a knife. But I whooped 'em all, yessiree! What made it more difficult was that I had to get two gallons of milk, luckily my superior tae kwon do kicking skills really came in handy. It all started on a dark and stormy night in the bad part of town.....

Anybody else disturbed by Underdog's last statement?

                            Hey Guys,

I noticed only one person responded to Underdog's last statement! He didn't sound very happy when he said that he would find peace with a 9mm between the ears...

Does anybody know him or have access to him? If so, maybe someone should go talk to him in person man. He could really use some friends right now.
